Tigers vs Cards

Postby srfrcrux » Sat Oct 21, 2006 7:08 pm

So what happens if your wife grows up in Detroit....????
You inevitably become a fan...
Growing up mostly abroad means that you don't really relate to all American sports....baseball....hey why don't we watch the last inning and call it a night?

Ah yes, the battle of the rookies. Cards ahead. Somewhere around game 4 should be fun. :D

You're more into it than I am, I'm satisified with the final score. Baseball's slow pace bores me. Going to a game is different, lots of other things to see and do, Oh there is a game going on?

I'm rooting for Detroit, even though they clobbered my Yankees.

8) I watched some of the game last night with my Dad who turned 84 on Monday and is a LONG time fan of the Tigers. He was excited that they made it to the Series again in his lifetime as he's getting up there! So I'll add the phrase I've heard for years..."Go Tigers!"

Although I played baseball back when I was younger, watching a game on TV seemed agonizing. A number of years ago a friend told me that I need to get into the pace, the strategy, chill out a little (I am a wee bit high strung). Since then I have been able to come to grips with the game and enjoy baseball for all of the things that other sports are not. I like the idea that there is no clock. I love the strategy of base running, changing pitchers, stealing, pinch hitters, etc. etc. (except that the American League removed about 1/4 of the strategy with the designated hitter.)

Now that I enjoy baseball I have kids and no time to watch it......

On another note, I watched a player on 1st steal second last night, however it wasn't considered a stolen base because it was ruled as "fielder indifference".

I take hombrage:

The same strategies apply, and no one watches a game to watch the manager "think." And, what's more of a let-down than having to pinch-hit for a pitcher whose pitching an outstanding game because you're down by 2 runs?

But the main thing is that nowadays, 90% of the time, if a team can get 5 good innings out a pitcher, they consider themselves lucky. There simply aren't pitchers nor an environment where pitchers go that distance and where pinch-hitting for the pitcher becomes such a major issue in the late innings.

The pitcher is usally burnt by the 6th.

It is true Ira that DH isn't as big a deal as it used to be. I am not a baseball fanatic but I have learned to enjoy the game at times. I do think it is a much more strategic sport than the other popular ones. But I hate a pitchers duel, I need some action...

As for the series, I don't care who wins as long as it goes 7 games. The AL already screwed us out of 5 games because of sweeps.

How good has he really been if he's down by 2 runs?

The best sport for Radio. I say, go to the garage, work on the TD and listen to Jon Miller - he is among the best broadcasters of baseball today. Those who suffer thru SF giants the last fe seasons know what I am talking about.

But since the very first game I sa was in Tiger stadium - Al Kaline and the crew - I say go Tigers.
