Do y'all remember "gift exchanges" and "drawing names" in class? The rule when I was in grade school was $2 or less per gift. (Try that now!)

I remember it broke my heart both years we didn't draw a girl's name, because one year my Mom found a $1.79 bow and arrow set at Gamble's and one year she found a cap rifle and two pistols with a belt and holsters for $1.98. The years we got girls were okay because I got to pick out the presents, so I always picked out books.

I remember Annie Oakley on Saturday and Sunday morning TV. I remember the Munsters and Gomer Pyle USMC in first-run night-time broadcasts.

Would that qualify me as a geezer?

Not really...I often strapped a 22 or my first shotgun (Browning Sweet 16, miss that gun) to the handle bars of my Schwinn Typhoon, rode to the edge of town, and plugged gophers, shot rats at the dump, or went bird hunting. Of course...I was hauling hay and driving a grain truck to the elevator at 14.

If I did that now at my age, PETA would be after me for shooting gophers, the Sheriff would cite me for driving the grain truck without a CDL, and I would get plugged with a 9mm right off my Typhoon by a some crack-head thinking I was invading their turf...*sigh* back to ya!!!

Dave... I still have my Browing side by side double 20 ga...... sooooo sweet! I don't hunt anymore... except for the occasional clay pigeon.... Although I wouldn't mind taking it downtown for a brace of lawyers or politicians! (not good to eat.... but would make great wall mounts!)
