Da Details!!

Oops...forgot this was on the other thread - win $50 messy shop!!

Here's the poop!

I used an old laptop, but there are several ways to do it.

<<<<<<<<Mini Hijack in progress!!>>>>>>>>

Basically I:

Set up laptop the way I wanted it to run - Boot and use xp custom screensaver to run after 1 min - turned off all pwr saving excpet HD - HD off after 5 min - screen saver looks at thumb drive

Disassemble laptop to minimum parts needed - careful of lcd ribbon cable!
No battery, cd, floppy, keyboard, touchpad, modem, other extra stuff.

TEST to make sure it works when hooked back up!!!

Built a picture frame from chair rail(had it handy) - sized just a smidge smaller than the LCD

customized mount for lcd screen - 4 screw mounts for existing lcd holder

customized mount for laptop guts(all one piece for this one!) - used only 2 chassis mount holes into wood straps

Built a custom enclosure for back and prop(desktop frame) - make it neater(still a little to do)

Disassembled all - stained and sealed(sealed with clear spray enamel)

Reassembled - TEST again

Put a gig of pics on thumb drive

Voila'!! Digital Picture frame

Set up at Moms while they are at sisters house Christmas morning!!!

Of course I did not take pics - I will this week. Will do a new thread!

I got lucky on ths one - the 1st laptop I killed the LCD and had to start over.....

<<<<<end Hijack>>>>

I used all stuff I had laying around either here or at my sisters.

I did not buy one single thing for this project!!

Did borrow my Bro-in-laws old mitre saw and a couple of hand tools and glue. He's the wood worker, but I chose to build it all on my DR table to keep it a secret and not have to travel!!

Thanks for the kind words! I plan on doing more of them.

I can be more specific if need be, so just ask!

I will also post pics of the back finished when done.
