There is also different lengths of screws, depending on the thickness of the wood you are drilling into.

The proper screws are good, but I've used drywall screws, decking screws , particle bourd screws, and regular wood screws with it. They all work good, just make sure that when they bottom out you don't keep drilling them in. Deck screws will keep going past the stop....
