Thursday evening, the early arrivals got bombed with rain, and the forecast was a tad bleak...
The bleakness turned to sunshine and fantastic weather after that.. could not have been better... warm days, not much humidity, and the camp sites were mostly shaded by tall canopy trees.. let just enough sun through without cooking us...
I think most would say it was a very nice venue for a gathering.
I'm cutting/pasting an email in, as someone asked about what we did at a tear drop gathering:
----------------------------
Yup, we went to a truck museum.... the pilot of the air plane had a crash and never flew again (a friend died in the crash, but it was not this airplane as far as I know)... gave his plane to the museum and they hung it up....
There is also a potato cannon in several photos... jam a potato down the barrel, put some raw propane in the bottom end, press an igniter (as from a bar-b-q) and shoot the potato about the length of a football field.. we are very easy to entertain/g/.. it is a very unhurried and relaxing time... Gretta, my dog, is awake most of the day, so sleeps like a baby at night...
During the day, I went food shopping (hate to shop), out for coffee and donuts, read some more Marley and Me, visited (most of us have met other times) and basically relaxed... on Saturday evening, we had a pot luck supper.. many tear droppers are into DO cooking (cast iron Dutch Ovens cooked with charcoal under the pot and on top of the lid)... stews, ribs, biscuits, cakes.. they know no limit.
We were in Lisbon, CT, right on the river... many brought kayaks and canoes, some bought and home made.. some fished.
There were about 25 trailers, 40 people and 12 dogs.. There were people from at least CT, MA, NJ, NY, ME, PA and maybe others.. it is one of the bigger rallies near CT..
As some have noticed, tear drop camping can be as simple as I do it.. pull in, take out a table and lounge and have a glass of wine... or as complicated as you want.. some take over two hours to set up multiple shelters with netting to keep the non-existent bugs out (none this weekend)... I do have a shelter to put up if needed, and if I'm going to a buggy area, I have a screen room.. but I only put up what I need... In the tear drop trailer I did have wifi connection for my computer, a/c, heat, vcr/dvd player and cable TV... so, somehow, I managed to survive.
