Road just for Teardrops?

Postby TLC » Sun Aug 05, 2007 1:13 pm

If you find yourself driving old Route 66 through MO, you'll cross a road just for Teardrops. Although I didn't see any, and people were cheating, driving on OUR road without a trailer!!

Yep, we have a picture of the same road sign, with our first teardrop along side of it, from our 2000 Route 66 trip. Although we didn't see any other tears on that road, we did pass a group of bikers.

Doesn't look like it's changed much in 7 years.

Hope you had a nice trip!

Betsey :)

Tom,

Oh there are many places we haven't been (and many we have no desire to visit  ). But both Craig and I grew up traveling by car all over this country with our families and we've carried on the tradition for the past 25 years. If it is odd, unique, strange, out-of-the-ordinary, out of the way, or downright bizarre, we make sure to pay it a visit!

I would post the pic of our tear on Teardrop Road, but, unlike most of our pics from that trip, it wasn't taken with the digital camera. I'll have to try scanning it.

Miriam,

All I remember was that it was around a place called Devil's Elbow. I searched online and found these directions:

"To get to the Elbow Inn/Big Piney from Rolla, take I-44 west to Hwy J (exit 169). Turn left and cross I-44. Take an immediate right on Hwy Z and follow to Teardrop Road on the left. Hwy Z is the “new” stretch of old Route 66 built in the 1940’s to serve Ft. Leonard Wood while Teardrop Road is the original 1926 stretch. Follow Teardrop Road to the Elbow Inn on the right. This bar is located just before the steel truss bridge of “old old” Route 66."

There are so many fun things to see on Route 66. We took along 2 books - Route 66 Traveler's Guide and Roadside Companion and Route 66 The Mother Road. Both were invaluable. The first one had map sections of Route 66 on one page with explanatory notes, history and directions on the facing page. The second had lots of good history, personal accounts and colored pictures. I highly recommend both.

Here you go Aunti. It's also just East of Morgan Heights and it crosses Route 66 two times. :)

On a motorcycle trip to Colorado about two four years ago I camped along side of the creek at the Devil's Elbow Inn, Good BBQ (and this from someone who's partaken Moonlight BBQ)--properly smoked and served with a side of slaw and longnecks. Nice area, good biking roads and friendly people.

Thanks Betsey and Gage for answering Aunti. It is a "must see" for teardroppers traveling in the area. A Kodak moment for sure!

For the "north of the border" folks.......................

Excerpted from > http://www.boattravel.com/meminfo/memmag/sun&surf.htm

"On days when the wind blowing off the snow-capped Cariboo Mountains kicks up whitecaps in Northern British Columbia’s Paarens Beach Park, you’ll wish there were hot springs there as well. Not that Stuart Lake, on whose golden shores sit the park’s 36 campsites, doesn’t warm up in summer. Sun and sand are the reasons windsurfers, skimboarders, and those looking to spike and shag a volleyball head to Paarens Beach. Mountain bike routes at nearby Whitefish Bay and along Teardrop Road are strong drawing cards for campers who journey 150 kilometres northwest of Prince George as well."
