Trailer Trash Bash

Things that don't fit anywhere else...

Trailer Trash Bash

Postby dmb90260 » Mon Sep 03, 2007 12:50 pm

For those at Mendo where I mentioned some planned trailer work...

I just returned from the Trailer Trash Bash put on by the Southwest Vintage Camper Assn near Albuquerque, NM. It was a great time with a fun bunch of people. Most of the pictures I took were of the Shasta's for a friend of mine. Only one teardrop there but my feet were hurting so I did not make it over to get a picture.
I have posted the pictures on flickr.com

You might enjoy the competition for TTB Queen for 2007.

I was there for another reason and the Bash just happened to fit my plans.
On Sunday my Kenskill looked like this:

When I was headed home on noon Friday, it looked like this:

You can see most of the process done by Larry Hill & Lannie Upchurch of Retro Restoration in 4.5 days at:

I had booked this job a year ago... the only open slot. It was well worth the wait. Coming home across the CA border, the cute lady Agriculture Inspector was not concerned with the NM chile pepper I had but in spite of the line of cars behind me and 110 heat, she insisted on checking out the inside of the trailer too. :applause:

Trailer Trash Bash

Postby rooster » Sat Sep 08, 2007 10:14 pm

After reading and re-reading about all of those beautiful refurbished
pre-1970 trailers, it brings up a question that maybe someone can answer.

Where does one get information about remove the old skin from the
trailer and does it take special tools, or you use just common sense?

Jim

I had it done and did not do it but I recommend some practice. You need a few specialized tools from what I saw. Larry Hill at Retro Restoration is very free with his knowledge. He has projects booked for the next 18 months, he is not afraid you will steal his business.
Check his site on the net.. http://www.retrorestoration.com/index.htm and give him a call. I am sure it would have cost more to have my work done in LA and it may not have been done as well.
Larry re-skins because painting old trailer just shows up all the old dings and he does not want his name on most of them.

We ran out of time, I still have to add the Kenskill "swoosh". Thank you, the envelope arrived and I sold another skillet in Albuquergue. I may have to keep the last one

Well, with the Dalton, it just took a screw driver, hammer and a pair of pliers and patience. Once you remove all the molding/trim and windows, it's pretty simple.

Now the Scotsman was a different story. I just used a sawsall.
