Who's Watching the Womens World cup Socccer?

Postby Mary K » Sat Sep 15, 2007 10:50 am

I am!! Woooohooo, Go USA! Thank goodness for DVR, or I would never get any sleep.

We watched the USA / Sweden game last night, and I have to say Abby Wambach second goal was the COOLEST!!!

"The first goal against Sweden was a penalty kick.

The second was a thing of beauty.

She took a perfect pass to the chest from captain Kristine Lilly, played the ball down, then caught it with her left foot on the half-volley and drilled it past the Swedish goalie."By Philip Hersh, Special to The Times

The US was a little squirrely in midfield, but I hope they calm down by the next game.

Soccer is one of my favorite sports. I don't play any more but have played since kindergarten and coached my kids up to high school.

I always encourage my kids and team members to watch the women's team more than the men's. The execution of fundamentals is much easier to see in the women's game and they do a great job of composure.

Great sport that any sized kid can play. :applause:

I don't miss any of them if my TiVo works okay. USA group was fun their first day with all the ties. If they meet N. Korea again, it will be a different game entirely. The US is just coming into form for this Cup.

Seen some very good games but over the weekend I have to balance them with EPL from England and pointy ball around here.
Love my TiVo

Nope, not because I wouldn't, but in Podunk, Missouri, I don't see that it offered on our TV Guide channel. :(

Anybody know what network is carrying it?

One thing is for sure, the female color commentators know the game better than most of the talking head announcers . They guys are not all dummies but knowing the game is what made those particular women great soccer players. :D Plus the women appreciate the game from both sides, none of them come across as "homers."

That would be Julie Foudy, She retired from US women's soccer recently. I have always liked her great sense of humor on and off the field. Its fun to listen to her commentating, they made a good decision to hire her for the job.
