Darkness Comes Early Here in The Far Nort..

Postby Classic Finn » Tue Sep 18, 2007 5:23 pm

Well now that summer was almost 24 hours of light ... now its the opposite. Here it gets dark at 20.00 hrs..

And in a month or so it will be at 1700... So when we wake up its dark and when traveling home from work its dark... For almost 6 entire months.

I took a couple of photos ... at 20:00 Hrs..

The summers sound wonderful. However birds head south for the winter, and so would I. When the weather drops below 20c I look for a coat, I have a feeling you get much colder than that.

Heikki it is funny. Looking at the pictures of your yard you could be my next door neighbor. The fence, the fire pit we are so different yet so much the same.

It can get very cold here.. And that is when the parka and fur hat and warm boots get out of storage.. and quick ... and if that dont do the trick I heat the Sauna...and out of craziness dive into the snowbanks..

Majority of our birds have flown south already...

I enjoy the yard and the plants and such... but I dont like the winter that much.. I could have winter as it is now ... The Darkness is what is depressing here during winter..

Your absolutely correct.. Im sure there isnt much difference ..except the language and geographical location...Much is the same..

I think what Eunice was trying to say is that even though you live in a different country on the other side of the world, we still are a lot alike, ya know?

IMHO, I guess us M'ercans feel like we are so special, and have it so good that there is no way other countries could be living up to our standards, with our freedoms, but in fact, they do...if not better standards at that. Your pictures are proof of it. You put your pants on just like we do...one leg at a time...(A southern saying)

Sorry about the darkness... I know I would LOVE it there. Let go ICE fishing!

It gets dark here also

Postby eamarquardt » Wed Sep 19, 2007 2:29 pm

I'm not sure of your latitude (or longitude for that matter) but I could figure it out if I really wanted to. I'm here at latitude 34 degrees (north) and it's dark now at 2000 also. The worst it gets here is light about 0630 or so and dark by 1700 (December 20). I figure summer best is light at about 0500 and dark at about 2100.

Everything in life is a compromise. The statement "the perfect compromise" is , in my opinion an oxymoron.

Cheers,

Gus
