Help in Home Depot

Postby SamR » Mon Sep 24, 2007 10:27 am

I have a co worker whose son needs kitchen cabinets for a remodel. He can't afford the "good" ones like some of the talented people here make. I recently put some of the Home Depot's cabinets that come in flat boxes in my old house before I sold it, and I think that's just what he's looking for. Problem is, he asked at the Ft Collins HD and they had no idea what he's talking about. Now I have a sneaking suspicion that some of you folks may be familiar with Home Depot. Have you seen these cabinets recently? And what do they call them? The nearest one to me is 68 miles away and I don't feel like driving up just to peak today...

Thanks guys! :? Duh, never thought of the website. Go figure. Mills Pride is what I used and had good results with. Couldn't remember the name.

Something you may want to ask about at Lowes, I am not sure if it's happening at all of them but... the ones around here are changing suppliers right now. I'm not sure about kitchen cabinets but I know bathroom cabinets for sure. My cousin just bought a whole bunch of stuff for his bathrooms in his new house and most of it he got for over 75% off. If you find out they are try and talk to the guys in charge of that area, a lot of them don't want to move the displays much and they are selling them for next to nothing. If you are buying a few things ask somebody, they may just mark them down more if they think it'll get you to take more home. He told me there was some sort of pantry cabinet that sold for $800 marked down to $80.
Just a heads up for some of you looking to do a little remodeling.
Not all of them are doing it at the same time but probably close to it. Mine is taking down everything on the 28th of this month.

A few years ago, I installed some "big box store" kitchen cabinets in a friend's newly built house. They came dissassembled in flat carboard boxes and when I first saw them, I thought that they were just a bunch of junk. However, as I continued into the install, they actually turned out very nice. All of the doors fit, drawers slid out just fine and with the crown mold at the top, looked very professional. However, I wouldn't want them in my house, but that is just the opinion of an "old" cabinet maker. My wife says I'm too picky.

When my kids were little, they used to pull out the kitchen drawers and climb up on them like stair steps. That's the way I built them, super strong, in solid wood guides. Then when my daughter got married, she complained to her husband that the lower drawers kept failing in her kitchen, because when she stepped up on them, they always broke. He couldn't believe she would actually stand on them. Oh well.

. Funny how you take quality for granted sometimes.

Thanks everyone for chiming in. Greg is (I hear) much more confident about this whole thing now. I think he was a little (lot) nervous and overwhelmed before.
