Touching Story

Postby George Kraus » Thu Oct 18, 2007 10:17 am

Found this story in our local newspaper about two Ohio Football Teams. I could not find the story on the internet so I am recreating it.

It was just another loss on another Friday night. Or so it might seem.

North Lewisburg Triad remained winless with a 28 - 12 setback on homecoming night against Jamestown Greenview. But those numbers don't tell the whole story.

In the waning seconds, Triad coach Payton Printz and some good sports of the coaching staff at Greenview conspired to make it a special night for one young man.

Greenview had possession late in the game comfortably ahead by 22 points. After running a few plays, the Rams quarterback purposely took a knee on fourth down to turn the ball over to Triad.

Triad then ran one play through a Rams defense that refused to tackle the ball-carrier stepping out of bounds at the Greenview 1 with 2.6 seconds left.

At that point, Printz helped Andrew Teets, a senior who has muscular dystrophy and spends much of his time in a wheelchair, walk onto the field to a loud ovation from fans and player on both sides.

Triad quarterback Ethan James then handed the ball to Teets, who walked across the goal line for the game's final touchdown.

I hope Greenview still covered the spread, or some people are gonna be really pissed.

I love it! That's what high school sports should be all about. There are more lessons to be learned then how a sport is played.

Great story.

Sometimes in my day to day world, I become cynical, but stories like this remind me that there are still good, caring people out there. I applaud both coaches and the fans for their behavior.

You all summed it up very well, in today's world high school sports are more competitive than ever, and after you read the newspaper or listen to the nightly news about all of the bad things going on in the world you get very depressed. I am convinced that this world is made up of a majority of good people who perform deeds like this on a daily basis, not of this scale, but just as important, to make someone's life a little bit better, unfortunately it is not newsworthy most of the time. This story is really uplifting.
