September – March

Here you have a good chance of seeing the Northern Lights, the Aurora Borealis. The deep green and yellow colours, sometimes streaked with bands of red, are one of the most astonishing natural phenomena it is possible to witness. You have the best chances to see the Northern Lights if you choose accommodation far away from towns and skiing centres, because the
artificial light disturbs watching them.

From November to January, various shades of soothing blue are Lapland’s most distinctive colours. The land is cloaked in a dim veil of light, known as the ’kaamos’, and bedded down for its winter slumber. During these mid-winter months, the sun does not rise at all. The bright stars and sometimes moon combined with totally white and pure snow anyway give light enough in clear
nights to see very well.

As a counterbalance to the sleepy world of snow and ice, the Northern Lights flash across the clear night skies. It’s possible to see the phenomenon in any part of Lapland - if the weather conditions are right, but the best bet is in February-March and September-October.

Wow Heikki. I'd have trouble getting used to that. It looks like it gets colder in April; is that right?.

Spring will come soon and it will get comfortable again. :applause:

8) Heikki, currently 27C here. It snowed here about 30 thirty years ago less than 1cm and shut down the whole area (then about 700000 people lived within 60 kilometers or so)

Heikki, at least your weather is predictable.

It was 82F here last Wednesday, and 42 the very next day. It is in the 40s today, but is supposed to be in the 60s tomorrow, and 70s by the end of the week.

I have, on more than one occasion, left my home in the morning wearing jeans and a t-shirt, and by the time I got home, it was 25F and snowing. A few days later, I'm having a backyard barbecue.

It is not unusual to wear short-sleeves on Christmas, and be iced in on New Years Eve.

We have the weirdest weather you can find.

Heikki, your temps look much the same as ours here in Alberta, however our daylight hours are a little longer.

Good Morning Canada

Yes indeed portions of Canada do have much of the same climate.

Has winter kicked in over there yet?

January and February here in North Texas are generally on the cold side. If we get a snow or ice storm, it is usually in January or February.

By the middle of March, we have had our last freeze most years. By May, you can swim in an unheated pool.

May and June are nice months. Not too hot. July through September suck. It is hot and dry. 100+ degree temperatures are common.

October is usually very nice. November and December are all over the place -- hot one day and cold the next, and then back to hot.

About once each winter, we get a really nasty week, where it stays below freezing for a few days, and we get ice storms, which paralyze Dallas. And, since our cracker box homes here are not made for cold weather, a lot of pipes burst and home heaters can't keep up with the cold leaking into homes.

We are also in "Tornado Alley." So, that adds a nice element of drama to the spring and summer months. Worse than that, though, is that we get terrible hail storms here. Imagine millions of golf balls falling from the sky for about five minutes. It makes a car look like the surface of the moon.

Yup, Texas is a real weird place for weather.

That is too cold for me. It was in the 40's and raining all weekend and that is cold here. It sometimes gets down to 32 here in Jan-Feb but it usually only lasts an hour or so. 60's today and upper 70's the rest of the week.

I can always tell when it's cold north of us. Our winter visitors come visit us.
These showed up on our lake over the weekend.

Heikki,
I'm not too far from cd's weather report(about 1 1\2 to 2 hours north), and it pretty much the same. What I miss is the weather in Colorado. I get e-mail alerts about ski conditions, and lots of the resorts up there are allready open for the season. Here it's just cold, rainy or icy.

Heikki, November means temps in the low to mid 30's centigrade for us down here. Maybe you should bring your build down here to try and Finnish it ;)
