I used http://filext.com/ to look for this extension with no success.

I did find this article that someone posted that uses the same file extension. But they could not import it either.

Where did the file come from?

It came from a friend of mine that is doing some cad work for a cnc cutter ..  I did ask him but no reply yet, and curiosity
was driving me to get some info as to what it is..and how to open.

It's a VectorWorks file.
http://www.nemetschek.net/

I've never worked with it, but my guess is that if he sent you a native file, you won't be able to do too much with it. Your friend will need to export it into a format that you can use without having the app. (JPEG, PDF, etc.). You won't be able to modify it, but at least you should be able to view/print it.

There's also the possibility you could open it with some other CAD program.

Then member Tim (turtle49) should be able to help you with it.

So is this type of file somthing to do with Cad? Or is it more for the CNC Cutter? Or Laser Operator?

Is it even a commonly used type file?

I myself dont have any clue.. as to why this would be used?

I guess I dont even need to know if its only for the operator of the CNC
I have the same in PDF which of course I got open normally.. 8) 8)

Looks like its got great reviews... looks like an aid to cad?

Vectorworks is a cad program. So yeah, it is a cad file and might be useful to a CNC operator, depending if their particular flavor of machine can use it. I happen to have a copy if you need anything done to it. My copy is an education version but I'm fairly sure it will do anything a full version will.

dwg.vwx ??

Classic Finn

...the "dwg" is a standard CAD type of file and the "vwx" indicates it was generated by Vectorwerks...t may be possible for other CAD programs to open it...especially if you rename it, dropping the .vwx designation(maybe)

I did a little research and found that Vector Works offers a free viewer.

Go to this page:
http://www.nemetschek.net/downloads/fundamentals/index.php

And scroll down to the date 10/13/06. Windows and Mac available.

Good Luck,
Tim

SketchUp will open a DWG file if you want to modify it.

I wouldn't recommend changing the file extension, it won't make much difference.

If you need a hand with it I'll see if I can get it into something more easily dealt with.
