Synergy 12 & 14 Is it a Kayak or Canoe?

Postby Classic Finn » Mon Mar 17, 2008 9:05 pm

Looks like we have somthing new or unusual for sale here now at the nearby canoe dealer named the Synergy 12 & 14.

Can any of you tell us about this?

I saw some photos from the forum members in Texas that have similar ones..

Are these good? How stable are they? Looks like fun.

Sit a tops are not just for calm water. They have a race from one of the Hawiian Islands to another. That would be deeeeep blue water there and not nessecarily calm.

to be made by Mad River. They used to make excellent canoes, I bought 2.one 17 ft, and one 14 ft. But this was 20 years ago in my middle youth. Since I'm now in my elder youth(+65) I gave my kids the boats and lost track of Mad River Quality, but I did find it, in the past worth buying their product.

 Now just what might you be calling calm waters. We know you hit the breakers so calm might be 2 or 3 ft swells :R

Mad River still makes great canoes and accessories to go with.

The one pictured is a long skinny kayak. It is great for speed but lacks the stability to take it offshore. It also has a very low rocker in the front. It is 27" wide and my offshore yak is 34" wide with a high rocker in the front. Mine is slower to paddle but I have more control in the surf. The long skinny ones get sideways easily in the surf. If you get sideways the waves roll you over.
The Synergy is a great kayak for lakes and bays but it would not perform well offshore.

Steve by offshore do you mean at sea? Such as youve been on with yours? (referrring to your photos). We would need a stable one like it if so.
