What did you used to do, and what will you be doing starting Monday?

Mike,
I am a chemist by training, and have worked as a chemist for most of my career. I work for a major pharmaceutical company here in Indianapolis, and up till this point, I have been working in one of the raw materials testing laboratories. During this transitional time, I had decided I really wanted to move closer to the patient, as well as do something a little different if I could get the opportunity. I had the chance to interview with the group that assembles our injector-pen delivery devices. For patients that must use an injectable medication, the pen makes it vastly more convenient than carrying separate vials of med. and syringes etc.
The job that I interviewed for is in the QC lab, but all the testing is engineering type testing. There is no chemistry involved. That is being handled by another group. The testing that I will be responsible for overseeing will all be of an engineering nature. While I think of myself of something of an amateur engineer, (I can generally follow Andrew when he starts talking about some of the deeper subjects) I have never done any of it professionally. I am a little nervous, but also very excited.
I will also be responsible for lots of technical writing. I have done considerable tech writing in the last five years or so, I have never been the one that was responsible for the whole project. That is also exciting.
Of course, it will take me at least a month to work my way through all the policies and procedures governing this new area, and I won't be able to do any productive work until I do. But that is the nature of the pharma industry today.
Thanks for all the well wishes everyone. I stand constantly amazed at what a great community this group is.
Tom
