Invitation to go tubing on the Rainbow River

Postby CAJUN LADY » Tue Jul 08, 2008 2:43 pm

Ok, there are a few of us going tubing on the Rainbow River on Saturday, July 19th. It's a 4 hour tubing trip that should be a lot of fun. Me, Fran (my camping buddy), Lynn and Paul (The Inkwell) and a few others are going and will try to arrive by 9:00 a.m. The parking lot fills up by 9:30 and then they close the lot. We would love for anyone to join us. If you are interested, just let me know and we can meet up at the park. Here is the info:

The Rainbow River is just north of Dunnellon,FL off U.S. 41. From Tampa, take Interstate 75 north to Exit 341 (County Road 484). Head west until you get to the town of Dunnellon (you'll cross the river just before the town limits). Go north on U.S. 41 for 3 miles. After the Winn-Dixie shopping center on the right, turn right and travel for 2 miles until you reach the railroad tracks. Immediately past the tracks take a left onto the frontage road and travel half a mile to KP Hole County Park.

KP Hole has restrooms, a snack bar, swimming beach and boat ramp. Alcoholic beverages and disposable items are not allowed on the river. Snacks and drinks in nondisposable containers are permitted.

The park entrance fee is $3 per person. Canoes are $5 an hour. Tubes are $9 for the day. For more information, call (352) 489-3055. You can bring your own tubes to save the rental fee. There is a shuttle fee. The fee if you bring your own tube is $10.00 for entry and shuttle. If you bring an ice chest you need to bring a tube to float it. Also, you need to bring a sports bottle with your drinks in them...no disposable water bottles or zip lock bags.

Hope we can get some forum friends to join us.

Always loved a good inner tubing what a great redneck holiday. We use to do it on the Bogachitta river a lot when I was a few 100 years younger. To bad I'm going to be in Memphis for the wifes family reunion.

Ohhhh, Becca!

You almost make me wish I were still living in Florida. We loved going up to Rainbow River (from Bradenton) :ok: :ok:
Crystal clear and cold as the devil. Our friends used to camp there frequently and we would go join them to play in the water and cook steaks! :Flippin Burger:
Goood times. Have fun for me! :woohoo:
Dave

Is it time to camp yet?

Steve, absolutely! The more the merrier. By the way, how was your trip?

Dave, Bradenton is my favorite beach community. I hit those beaches as much as the rain will allow. Glad to hear you liked the Rainbow River. This will be my first trip there and I am hoping it will be the hottest day of the year because I know that water is COLD. Sure you guys don't want to make a road trip just to float in some freezing water?? Doesn't that sound enticing?
