What nickname do you have for your GPS?

Things that don't fit anywhere else...

Just got a Garmin. Havent named it yet but I am sure I will. We just went to Lake Selmac in Oregon. Have driven the road a thousand times but we had many surprises seeing all the roads that were along side the highway. All these years and we didnt know they were there!

My GPS is also a Garmin. I also have a handheld for Geocaching. I like to use both for caching. The car one to get me on the right side of the curvy missouri river and the hand held in the boonies.

In the Black Hills of S. Dakota geocaching can be very challanging. Lots of rocks and lots of trees interfer with the satelitte signal. :scratchthinking:

Both of mine (garmin Nuvi + garmin etrex) are nicknamed "the tricorder".

Yup. They lose signals when they are blocked. These are teeny signals from outerfreakinspace being recieved by a micro antenna, of course they loose them. (GPS comm is much like looking for a needle in a haystack. A big haystack. And a tiny needle :) )

It blows my mind to think that for $100, I can hold in my hand a gizmo that gets signals from space, and can figgure out where I am within 10M or so. AND, it knows where the nearest fast food joint is.

There's some pretty major tech in these things.

I'm more of a map guy myself. I figure it will keep my mind sharp well into old age. Maybe keep me from plowing through a farmer's market in my truck.

The first one got dubbed "Bossy Boots" and the second one is "Bossy Boots Jr" or BeeBee for short. The third one doesn't talk so Lori hasn't named it, yet :)

I have a Magellan 3100--it has issues, turn left, when its right, it may correct itself before the turn, never lost sat signals, but it recalulating route--locks up and reboots. Try that in a busy downtown thats new to you.

I look at a map after it gives me directions, just in case it quits. Its kinda like having a buddy with the directions to the cabin passing out 3 miles from the prize. LOST and I don't even know WHERE to start looking on the map.

It says "make a legal U-turn" when I change my mind in familar territory, over and over, and over and.....

I call mine Dopey somtimes.

I named mine "Hubby" after Brian, my husband. You see, he has always 'told me where to go' and now I have a Garmin with an attitude that 'tells me where to go'.

We also have a Garmin and have been real pleased with it. The built in one is fun but Gene gets perturbed with her and shuts her off when she gets too bossy. Poor Daphne I hope she doesn't have a melt down.

We named ours Gilbert P. Stupid
He gets us lost a lot! I think he was programed by the Hills have Eyes Mutants. He likes to take us out to the middle of nowhere and just dump us off! I'm always expecting the mutants to come running out from the woods and attack us

Weve learned to use maps along with Gilbert.
If we miss an exit, he figures were idiots and instead of trying to get us turnded back around, he takes us off the beaten path. On the good side though weve seen alot of pretty country off the highways ;)

'Hubby' does get a little annoyed with me too when I don't take the route it suggest. I like to hear it say "Recalculating...Recalculating!"
Grani, Brian won mine on Ebay. It's a Garmin Nuvi 650. I love it!
