Any one up for a trip up the Bolivian Death Road?

Postby Roly Nelson » Wed Oct 01, 2008 9:30 pm

This is probably the most dangerous road ever built. Check it out, and if you plan to take a trip on it in your teardrop, you might want to think again. The Bolivian Death Road can be seen at; http://outdoors.webshots.com/album/557872947SyNjlc
 Roly, wow, read it and weep!

Naw, I'll pass. Let us know how it goes, and don't forget the pics (the one with your trailer turned into a stick pile at the bottom of the canyon would be great)
If it itches. scratch it

That's pretty crazy, but I'd like to drive it just not in a truck.

Man, that's just crazy ... :? ...!

I'd love to ride a Harley on that thing ... only with very little traffic, and all going the same direction ... :worship: ...!

You probably won't find anything like that here in the USA, but the road up the side of the mountain to Lake Shasta Caverns (above Lake Shasta, here in Jefferson State) could give you a good idea of how it would feel ... ...

The Apache trail is like that on a smaller scale. And people pull boats thru the Apache trail. Best view is coming from the north from Roosevelt lake.
As some of the articles of this road says, some RV rental companies don't let there RV's drive on this road. Check it out sometime if your not a nervous driver.

The Apache Trail near Phoenix
When you get to this bridge you look at the shear cliff in front and wonder how you get thru until you find out you drive on its edge all the way up.

That brings back memories. No, I haven't been on that road, but one very similar. We rode in the back of a flatbed truck that had been outfitted with benches - side to side rather than front to back - and a canopy over top. At one point, we looked down off the side of the truck and saw nothin' but ocean ... at a great distance down. I'd guess we were doing 45 or 50mph at the time.

St John, US Virgin Islands. I highly recommend the Maho Bay campground, but you have to travel to the other side of the island to get the heart-stopping-fear experience we had. We stayed in the eco-tents.
