What else do you build?

Things that don't fit anywhere else...

i build, maintain and race these as a hobby. coming up in november there is an international finals for these that will be held in (and using the entire surface of) a rodeo arena in alvarado texas.

This is the one i ran at that race last year, it was kinda inspired by taladega nights. i finished 12th overall, not too shabby for a race open to the whole world.

I have been a builder and flyer of radio controlled airplanes for 36 years (see my thread titled "A different kind of woodworking"), but before that, in my teen and college years I built plastic model cars - literally hundreds of them! Now and then I still get the urge and build, or rebuild one. I saved a bunch of them from years ago. Here is an original issue Monogram Models "Big Deuce" hot rod from 1963. In 2003, I rebuilt it with new paint and a more modern set of wheels & tires. It's 1/8 scale - about 18" long!
Image
I rebuilt an old Model T rod from about 1968. I made exhaust pipes for the Buick V-6 from titanium wire and "blued" them with a torch. Lower right of pic shows it before the rebuild. Scale is 1/25.
Image
I've built a few modern kits, too. Here's a 1/25 scale 1932 Ford roadster by Revell which I changed by using an old Chrysler Hemi engine and aftermarket Mustang II front suspension. Those plug wires were a PITA to do, but add a lot of realism!
Image
You can see I like hot rods!
BTW, the things others have posted on this thread are beautiful! There is some amazing skill here!!

I like to turn old travel trailers into small guest houses for our kids to stay in while visiting. This one took about two weeks to finish.

I like to build jeeps and basement bars :)
If you can build it, I can break it.
It isnt half empty or half full, it is twice as big as it needs to be.

My latest deterrent to completing the TD is this group of security panels/underpinning for a large deck (not my deck). As you can see they still need to be painted and hung (hopefully they will then be level), but I finally got all 10 panels built with and the stars and rings welded in place. That new plasma cutter made the stars quick and easy with a template. Oh, there are 4 more panels to build but they are smaller and of a different design so I want to complete these 10 first, then start the others. It has been a fun project but I have been coming home exhausted every day. Hopefully when I finish this I can find some time to get back to work on the Escape Pod.

Nice work, Larwyn. I could use some of those up here in Minnesota, but to fit in around here, you may have to add a sickle to that star and maybe replace the star with a hammer, and paint it red.

Here is my latest project:

A fusion of old and new. A customer of mine has asked me to take his ultra-rare '39 GMC COE 3-door crew cab and graft it onto a brand new frame and running gear. In this case, a 2009 Peterbilt 330. This truck will ultimately be outfitted with a wrecker style body on the rear with a 5th wheel hitch, and be used to pull a two car enclosed trailer.

Jimmy, meet Pete; Pete, meet Jimmy.

This is without a doubt the most ambitious project I have ever accepted. It certainly will not be easy, but like my Dad always says; If it was easy, everyone would do it.

If anyone knows someone who needs a rolling chassis for a '39 GMC (minus the engine) let me know. I'd hate to just scrap it.
