My town was devasted by Hurricane Ike.
50% homes destroyed 20% more damaged. Many are now homeless.
This is a picture of our local park. I bet they would be more comfortable in TD's ;) --That was our plan if we came back to find our home gone.
We were fortunate to only have damage, 6' of storm surge in our ground floor.
We bugged out with the TD (unfinished), and stayed in it for 2 days. It's safe and sound for the next emergency.

Bulldozers have begun to scrape away the homes. There are many many RV's here now and people are still living in tents.

Every store and restaurant we had are still closed or gone.

It's been a long long month, and it will be many more before some type of normalcy returns.

We are a resiliant bunch, and neighbors are helping neighbors and we are steadily moving forward. It is definately a marathon were in right now.

We are demolsihing our ground floor and turning it into a garage. Our teardrop will have a new home when we are ready to go get her :)

Thank you for the update. Sounds like some serious work being done. Living without a store might give me pause. Perhaps Homeland security needs to go into devastated areas and do grocery stores first.

A big new garage sounds wonderful to me.

Wishing you lots of luck.

There are stores in other towns open, we just don't have any locally.
As for restaraunts, almost all of them are located near the water even in the surrounding towns, and they are also still closed.
Just a couple open withen a decent driving distance.

I finally wanted a night out last Friday, and had to make due with a Chili's.

I actually do have some pics of the demo, I'll get those up in a bit. :)

We lost all our tools in the flood, which was a bummer because we had just about everthing! Some we had just purchased for the TD build. Now we have to start all over.
My husand is not a happy camper having to use a manual hammer now after losing his nailgun

The surge shoved our water heater through the bathroom wall.

The other side will be a bit more of a pain, since we have to move the laundry room, it's in the front of the house right now, so we have to move all the plumbing to the back.
