Wiring help; not TD related tho

Does anyone have a diagram of a split receptacle that is mid-run?

I've been scouring the net for a good wiring diagram but I haven't able to find one.

I'm installing an Instant Hot system underneath the kitchen sink. I want to use the garbage disposal receptacle that is already there. The problem is, both are switched by the wall switch. I want to split the receptacle so that one is switched and one is on all the time. I broke the tab off but now I have one switched and one dead.

I'm guessing that it is mid-run because there are 3 sets of wires in the box; in, out, & switch. What is confusing me is that there is a red wire in the mix.

Thx

Depending on who installed the wiring the red is probably the switch leg!
Hook the red wire to one of the hot screws and hook the black wire to the other hot screw! Hopefully the hot side is the side that you broke the tab of on. There is no need to break the tab on the neutral side as it is on the probably on the same circuit.

With my trusty meter, I managed to figure it out. Didn't like it though because it felt too much like I was at work. All I had to do was add one wire.

What I ended up doing was add another hot lead before the switch and connect it to the "always on" plug. The other plug got the lead coming from the switch. Everything else stayed where it was, still don't know what that red wire was for.

They might have just used a chunk of 12/3 because it was handy and it fit. 8)
