Thoughts about a trany cooler in my 4 banger Camry

Things that don't fit anywhere else...

Perhaps after the tranny cooler instal you may want to increase the frequency of simple radiator flushes and refills with new coolant.

Our TV came with the factory tow pkg and notso summer freindly black paint. We simply flush and refill the radiator before every summer tow season. :)

Our tranny is factory sealed for life, how nice? :o
Five years old now, five XC trips in the summer heat (100+), zero cooling problems. Costs about $15.00 a year to do it. Longevity, priceless!

Get this!

I have a 2001 Ford Windstar van and it has the trans fluid going through a "cooler" in the radiator. I have installed thermoucouples and use a Fluke digital thermometer to read the temperature (guaranteed to be almost "dead on balls accurate, an industry term" (quote borrowed from Cousin Vinny). To my amazement during normal operation (not towing) the fluid is cooler exiting the transmission than is it exiting the "cooler". Rather than being cooled by the radiator it's brought up to the temperature of the coolant which is hotter! I think that if you are serious about cooling the fluid you ought to reroute the fluid through an external cooler and get rid of the radiator loop. If you live in a cold climate you could intall "t" valves to bypass the radiator cooler during hot weather and run it through the radiator during cold weather so that the fluid is warmed to the correct temperature during really when required by really cold weather. Here in So. Cal. that's not an issue for me because if there is snow present, I'm not!

There you have it, the world "according to Gus".

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Gus

never thought of that, but it makes sense... If the engine is running at about 220, and the trans isn't working hard, the temp going in should be 150-175... and it would be heated close to engine temp in the radiator.....
