Cataloging Toys

Postby rebapuck » Sun Dec 20, 2009 3:55 pm

I am a collector of VW split window bus toys. They are currently packed up because I had new carpet put down. When I'm ready to unpack, I think I should take the opportunity to catalog what I have.

Has anyone done this type of thing? Is there a good program to use? What info should be included. I'll probably print for a notebook.

 Haven't done it but I would definitely include pictures. You might find an off site to host them too.

I would suggest taht you talk with your insurance agent that has your home owner insurance. Depending on how large your collection is - it could be worth some money. I own several very valued guitars and I called my agent to get an idea on how to insure them. He was very helpful in telling what kind of documentation I needed and various photos - descriptions etc............

There are some options out there when it comes to cataloging toys however...I haven't found one that I really like...so I'm in the process of putting one together that works for me. I'm using excel and you can also include pictures in that. My "toys" are principally diecast cars/vehicles

These are what I thought were important to me:
Manufacturer
Type of Vehicle
Make
year toy was made
date aquired
Condition
Box/no box
Where from (purchased/gift/which store)
Purchase price
Current Value
Any special story attached to toy.
The thing to do is decide what's important to you...what do you want to record. This is me in my Den with some cabinets (Ikea) behind me and a wooden truck I made from scratch. The roof comes off and I have magazines housed inside.
