Any deeply meaningful presents?

Postby Aaron Coffee » Mon Dec 28, 2009 7:11 pm

I got two presents that were truly meaningful. The first was a Christmas ornament from my aunt, she hand wrote my name on the front and signed and dated the back. She was diagnosed with cancer a year ago and she hasn't been giving very long. The second was a letter from my little brother, offering to buy deer hunting licenses for me and my older broter and dad, before we get to old. I was feeling ashamed that I didn't buy my brothers and sister anything, when my brothers letter inspired me to pay for camp spots for a couple days of camping for the folks, my two brothers and their wives and kids and my sister and her son, and myself. This is something I have wanted to do for a couple years, because it seems like anymore the only time we really get together is Thanksgiving and Christmas.
If I could shut my brain off, I could save myself alot of time, money and effort.

My fraternal grandmother gave me an ornament every year from my first Christmas to my 18th Christmas. Fortunately my mother wrote it down each year so I know which ornament was given on what year. I'm 50 now and both my mother and grandmother have passed. Those ornaments mean more to me than any other gift I have gotten.

I was wondering why the water balloon was getting bigger... and then it hit me.

Webcam.........I know that doesn't fit the thread but it does to me.
You see, our youngest daughter got married in October and moved to Korea Dec 11th to be with her military husband. They will be there for a year which feels like eternity to me.
Cassidy bought the webcam so Charles and I can see her and talk to her almost every day. She understands how difficult this move has been on me emotionally.
So. . . this particular gift has meant more to me than anything.
Even though my baby of almost 22 years is around the globe from me I can see her and talk to her daily if I insist..

My sister.

She is currently on a list waiting for liver and kidney transplants and does better some days than others. The wait is killing all of us. It's bad to wait for someone to finish with their kidney and liver so she may live. We know when she gets what she wants, someone else is saying good bye to a loved one.

This year, as in years past, she makes the best banana bread ever. A loaf weighs about a ton and oohhhhhhhhh it's good. My wife and I went over and 'helped' her. More to the point, she kind of mashed the bananas and we put together everything. I finished mashing the bananas when she couldn't see though she busted me later, "...hey, I did a really good job of mashing those didn't I?"

She's six years older than me. She was the A student. I was the C student. We have never gotten along well. Now that we're in our 50's, we're putting aside some of our childhood problems and getting to know each other as adults. It's nice.

All the adult families on in my wife's family got a silver dollar and every grand child got a 50 cent piece. These came from my wife's grandmother who will be 99 in the spring, she's been saving these for years and passed them out this Christmas. Means a lot cause this could very well be her last Christmas to hand out a gifts.
