My latest obsession

OK OK You all warned me to be careful about falling into another 'cult' but I was dumb enough not to heed your warnings. I ended up getting another Big Green Egg this weekend.

I signed up for a competition BBQ class this coming weekend. I wanted to bring my Egg, because it is better to learn on your own pit, but it is a pain to move. Mel was so adamant about not moving it, that she would rather buy another smaller more portable unit, than move the original XL egg. She was afraid that the XL one would break because we had to pull it out of the table and carry it downstairs.

We bought a smaller one this weekend, a Large, it's still heavy but it isn't as akward as the XL. It is also small enough that it fits thru the doorway which means no stairs. Before we could buy it, Mel said that I had to bring it to all TD gatherings. Maybe I can test out what I learn at BBQ school on some of you.

Hey, I've been trying to convince She-Who-Must-Be-Obeyed that I need one, but my furloughs have kind of nipped that in the wallet. '$>'

I have looked at a number of different brands: The Big Green Egg, Grill Dome, Primo... Why did you choose the Egg?

I know what you mean about the wallet. Which is why I was so surprised that my wife was the one who wanted to get another one. I lost my job in Dec so we are on one income.

I too looked at the other ceramic cookers. I really like the looks of the Kamado but the one I wanted had so much lead time that the Summer would have been over by the time I got it. All the others are similar in price. I chose the BGE because you can (usually) buy them locally at a brick and mortar store and you talk to actual people when you have a problem.

I got mine an outdoor living type store, they also sell spas and hottubs. When I go in to buy supplies (fire starters, charcoal, etc.) they know me by name. They tell me when new accessories come out. When we bought the 2nd one they even gave me a decent discount.

I have one too and I'm very happy with it. I had a Holland gas grill but it was slow and my food tasted baked not grilled.

Where did you get it? We didn't get it, we built it!
