Wow! :o That's a lot of ice Heikki. I don't know if I would want to be on one of those ice floats though.

Cool pics! Is it noisy on the ship when it's passing through the ice?

Not on the Bridge but in the Engine Room a bit. Ice forming on deck also makes things a bit treacherous. Adds tonnage to the ship also. This particular ship is a double hull and rated Ice Class so its not as bad sounding in ice as many another. This ship is also capable of breaking its own ice.

Have to say it can get exciting at times

While at sea we are not allowed to enter the deck without approval and specific reason in winter. At 26 to 30 knots its not recommended.

However while in port, if we like  ;)

You mean wind speed, not ship speed...right? :?

 Now why does that look cold. We have only 6 inches of snow and supposed to have freezing fog tonight. :? Time to hibernate.

Hello Rob that is ship speed. ;) Wind speed here is measured at Meters Per Second. Wind speed at 25 - 30 meters per second and ship speed of 26 -30 knots can be very dangerous, if the wind comes at you from the sides.

Also ship speed to that point in winter with pack ice can be an experience.

Working on ship is never lonely especially with 800 passengers onboard.
This particular ship is what is called a RORO PAX. Which means its a combination of a Cargo/Passenger Ship. So its not lonely working there.
The only thing is if you have wife and children such as I do, that can be tough, home sickness can occur being gone weeks at a time. Missing my family was the biggest.

I've never heard of "freezing fog" before! That sounds intimidating! :snow
