South West Eclipse

Postby alffink » Mon Jan 10, 2011 9:39 am

Hey all

A couple weeks back, we were discussing the Lunar Eclipse, then that morphed into a notice about the total Solar Eclipse that will cross the US in 2017

Well, much sooner, but still plenty of time to plan, there will be an Annular Eclipse of the Sun on May 20 2012, this will be a SouthWest US event, but hey there is plenty of time to get there.

Google Annular Eclipse 2012, several sites will pop-up, my favorite is the NASA site with the google map

Canyon de Chelly National Monument looks like a great place to see it!

Hi Cliff

Canyon De Chelly, is one of the first places I picked

I don't know the area though, so I was waiting for others to chime in.

I posted this and the earlier one, toget people thinking about what it will take to observe a solar event safely, what equipment may be needed to photograph such an event and where to go that may not be the equivilent of Time Square on New Years Eve.

There will also be a Transit of Venus, which is actually more rare than a Solar Eclipse in June of 2012 also.

Hmmmm Where to go? What to take?
