bucket list

Postby doitright » Sat Jan 15, 2011 2:23 am

I will be camping at the Hilton on St. Charles Feb 25 &26 for the Mardi Gras 2011. Have been wanting to go for years. I know Mardi Gras is March the 8 this year but I am too old to mess with that crowd. So I will be going early will be able to see 4 or 5 parades and for sure go to Bourbon St.
I hope I will make it to Key west in Oct. 2011 also. I know no camping but road trip, party, hotel can still be fun and it is on the bucket list.

The Hilton is a really nice place to camp!

That's a great location to start from.

We like to watch the parades down along St Charles in the Garden District.

Bring lawn chairs, your camera, and your adult beverages and have a great time!

There are three parades going on along that route while you'll be there.

Remember, lots of :pictures:

Just don't take pictures of the NO police boozing it up while performing their duties. We almost got in BIG trouble for that a couple of years ago!

We will NEVER EVER go to New Orleans again. Went once, the nice hotel where we had reservations had screwed them up and sent us to some rat hole hotel. We refused to stay there, sat in the train station all night fending off bums and beggars, and left there for good in the morning. That trip was a total disaster. :x

That is one thing I have never had a problem with no matter where I have traveled. My time may one time come but I will always have my wheels so I can go when and if I need to.

Yea, I went to the Packers-Patriots Super Bowl years back. We did not have tickets we just went to party. While in the bar watching the game some guys broke into our van and stole everything that was not attached and some that was. All our clothes and winter coats, cameras, TV and electronics. The only thing they left was a Wisconsin Badgers sweatshirt and our Coors lite Beer. So it was not a total loss. The Police were no help at all. The worst part we were in a secured lot we paid for . I always said the next time I go it will be with the clothes on my back and no vehicle. It was a long trip back to Chicago in an ice storm with no coats!

I know the feeling big time. Wile on vacation they got me. I came home and everything I worked for ten years was gone. They put me out of business and I had to start over again. Not a good feeling to come home to a empty house and shop. But I still go on vacation just have better insurance.

We have also been to Key West, and would go back there. At least there the beggars were polite. If we refused to give them anything, they just said to have a nice day. However that was about ten years ago, so who knows how it is now. Sunset at the pier was something to see, not so much the sun, but all the various people and acts, sword swallower and such. We went up the lighthouse, saw Mel Fisher's treasure museum, and had a cheeseburger at Jimmy Buffet's. While at the southernmost marker a couple bums wanted to take our picture, with our camera of course. Not sure what their scam was, run with the camera, or want money to return it, but we didn't let them take it. All down through the keys was interesting, but never found any real spectacular beaches there, just didn't know where to look. Only did one overnight in Key West, not really on the priority list but would go back.
