The sad state of American News

Things that don't fit anywhere else...

The majority of people in the lunch room at noon wanted to watch Jerry Springer as opposed to the news at noon.

They would tell us (the few that wanted the news) to eat lunch at another time.

Now Jerry Springer is on from 11am till 4pm on some channel every day.

The News at Noon is only on once a day at? Anybody, anybody? Bueller, Bueller?

Can't argue with that kind of logic.

They even changed the channel on 9/11

Happy Trails

The sad fact is those same people vote! Now you can see why we are where we are in this country.

I work in the woods and have to drive from unit to unit. When things are not going well, and I'm in a bad mood, I cannot listen to the news or news show on the radio. I turn it to whatever music station I can get and try to get in a better mood--escape.

Perhaps that is what the people in the lunch room wanted. After all, they are stuck at work and news is available at other sources. Maybe they got in a better, more productive mood watching Jerry Springer?

I worked in Russia just after the Soviet Union ended and the guys I worked with (real apparatchiks - part of the Soviet system) all understood that there really isn't one single truth - there's just one truth from where you're standing. Looking at the same thing from a different direction may give you a different truth.

The amazing thing the Russian state TV evening news program did was to give over the last 5-10 minutes of the program to a brief news summary from another country. I saw French, German, Italian and British - I guess using a US channel was a step too far! The summary would be broadcast in its original language with a Russian translation voice-over, so you could go into work the next day and your mate who understood Italian could tell you that the Russian translation was truthful.

It's an idea that wouldn't be very popular, but I can't think of any country where it wouldn't be a good idea. And sadly the Russians gave it up pretty quickly too.

Nobody no where in the USA is going to be paying higher gas prices because of what's going on in Egypt, than the folk here in Humboldt County... Home of the nations highest gas prices.

An interesting perspective of what's going on in Egypt.

Unfortunately there is no news per-se on network television in this country. Only tabloid news.

NPR radio, BBC and Al-Jazeera are probably your best bet for anything really newsworthy.
