NASCAR fans, DTM coming to America...

Postby caseydog » Sun Apr 17, 2011 6:37 pm

The German stock car racing series, Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters, is coming to America for 12 races in 2013. The locations have not been announced.

DTM is the NASCAR of European racing, using production based cars, with lots of action and trading of paint. Lots of aggressive moves and some pretty spectacular crashes.

Like NASCAR fans, DTM fans have their favorite drivers and car brands, that many of them follow from track to track.

The biggest difference is that they race on road courses instead of ovals, which NASCAR only does a couple times a year.

A lot of the drivers in DTM also drive in other series, and there are several 24 Hours of Lemans winners competing.

Here are some cool videos...

Hopefully they will get a decent amount of interest. DTM is more "Stock Car" than those generic NASCAR shells would ever hope to be.

Dunno if some people can get out of their Ford/Chevy thinking. The NATCC didn't last very long here.

Not familiar with the series until now, thanks for the links CD. I can see why it's popular, those guys aren't one bit afraid to mix it up. And ya gotta love it when the door falls off from getting hit so many times and the driver never lifts!

have they determined what tracks they will run at here?

off to do some reading up on the Daimler team.... 8)

DTM coming to America...

Great news!

Ever since John Frankenheimer brought the motor racing epic Grand Prix to American theatres in 1967, I have preferred euro-style road racing... and have been familiar with the DTM series, the BTCC, etc for decades.

I have a link to a two-part "touring car" battle from 1971 in England; it's a classic David vs. Goliath 15-lap sprint race featuring one 6-litre "Cam-ah-ro" pitted against a gaggle of small-bore, twin-cam four bangers.

It is an awesome race with Murray Walker holding the mic:

The tracks have not been announced, but there will be a few in California, for sure, and they may run some in the South for the NASCAR crowd.

There is a new F1 track being built in Texas, which will probably try to get a DTM race. :worship:

Sure would be fun to see those screamers at Sears Point. That's the closest major league track for me 8)

I know, its "Infinion Raceway" now, but will always be Sears Point to me lol
