Patrick is still in reception and had his cell phone for 1/2 hour and we got to talk to him 20 minutes. It was so great and felt so good. Will be a week before he actually starts basic and he is very bored right now That won;t last. We won;t get any other information til he starts basic but for now we got to call him.

Karen,

That's great news!

Now, you've just got to sit back and let him grow up, but write lots of letters, he'll appreciate them.

Please do everything you can to attend his graduation, it is/will be a life changing experience for both of you (for the better). :)
He may not say so, but having you there to see him graduate will be the most important thing in his life.

You'll be so proud! :applause:

:) It was so good to hear him and do not worry, nothing will stop us from going to his graduation. :) Family day too :)

But we still miss him. And even more proud.

well,,,, if he thinks he is bored now ,,,lol
half of military life is waiting,,,the other half is standing in line, and the other half is standing in formation waiting.

tell him from the old sarge,,,, keep you head down, your mouth shut, and don't volunteer for anything.

god bless him and you! :applause:

I believe you are refering to the process of: "Hurry up and wait"! Also, never stand when you can sit, never sit when you can lie down, and never remain awake when you can sleep. Obey the laws of thermodynamics: "conservation of energy".

Cheers,

Gus

Finally got a letter with his address so we can send him mail. Took long enough,

Those that have been in the military can probably appreciate his statement that he isn't there for the fun if it anymore.

they are working him plenty, they had to go through the gas chamber which was way worse than anything he could have imagined. But he still feels real good about his choice to join and has developed a much greater apprecition for those like his grandpa (who was air force) that went before him. And for what he is doing now

Ahhh yes, Confidence Course, Protective Mask. One of the courses I was allowed to instruct at Fort Sill in the early 70's. Great fun that was!!

Looking back, those were the "best of times".

For the new soldiers, a lot of camaraderie, laughter and fun while being transformed from boys into men.
