Sleep Apnea Machine

Things that don't fit anywhere else...

Postby IndyTom » Thu Feb 23, 2006 7:30 am

Chris, I have what the dr. described as a severe case of sleep apnea. I cannot sleep anymore without my CPAP. I keep an inverter and an 18 AH battery stored near the bed in case of a power outage. I had to use them just recently when someone took out a power pole near our house. It works just fine. I have a friend that has a CPAP that is very similar to the one you are describing and he uses it every summer at a church camp on an island in the middle of Dale Hollow lake. He just takes the battery out of his van when they leave the dock and he tells me it lasts the whole week, he just has to get someone to give him a jump start when he gets back to the van. Once she gets used to it, she will not want to sleep without it...

Thanks, Tom. Those are encouraging words. I'm scheduled for a test myself, so we may end up looking like th Bobsy Twins!

Chris, maybe you need to buy Fran a dog. OK I'll explain. A cousin of mine from your area had sleep apnea and he had a wonderful weine dog that slept with him. She just happened to know when he quit breathing and she would wake him up. She is the sweetest thing. Well my cousin had a massive heart attack last year and Maggie (the dog) went into deep depression. Maybe I should call and see if Maggie wants to move in with you guys.

Fran has two dogs and the first thing the doctor insisted was she remove the dogs presence from the bedroom. :o So she certainly doesn't need a third.

Chris, my ex-boyfriend had a c-pap machine that we used to tent camp with. He had an inverter that he hooked up to the car battery and would run the machine off that. As long as we made sure that the car ran for 15-20 minutes each day the battery always had power. As far as placing the machine higher than the user, he would quite often set up the machine on the sewing machine next to the bed at home, which was higher than the bed. There were only a couple of times when he would get a shower but other than that he had no problems. Don't let the machine cramp your style. There is always a way to get it to work.
