Lee Riding the Scooter Cannonball!

Postby tupelosue » Sun Apr 22, 2012 7:07 pm

Many of you know Lee Bryant,(aka Lazybones) from Willits (Nor Cal) He is on day 1 of an 8 day ride across country, called the Scooter Cannonball Run. They left Savannah, GA, early this morning (Sunday, 4/22).

Here are some links you can check out to see what it's all about:

http://www.scootercannonball.com/route/

http://followride.com/
(he's rider #15)

http://modernvespa.com/forum/viewtopic. ... 17#1363017
(currently on page 16; you might want to scroll back a bit)

https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1674341317
(Lee's FB page, don't know if it's public or not)

Lee did an amazing build on a 1947 Salsbury scooter, now with a ninja 250 engine. Find pics of it and check out his sponsor stickers. you might know a few of these folks.

His handicap is 24, and assuming he finishes each day he's favored to win. Enjoy the ride, and if you see some scooters passing thru your way, give them a beep or a thumbs up.

Damn if I only had the time and money I'd be on that ride. Trouble is by the time I have both I'll be one old mouse!

I saw that they're stopping in Lufkin, TX. Maybe some of our TD buddies that live there can give him some support. I know Charles & Linda (Coca Cola Teardrop) live there, I thought there was another.

Not sure if my skills were up to this, but I MAY have given a link to a youtube video that someone posted as they passed 3 scooters. 2nd one passed is Lee.

If not there, go to modernvespa.com, General Discussion, Official Cannonball thread, page 21.

They're calling his scooter the Frankenscoot!

That would be cool if they did! Thanks for the idea, Rocky. That would be TODAY, TUESDAY, by the way.

They usually start early, 6-7 am I believe, and ride 346 miles, so should start rolling in 6=7 hours after the start. Don't know their hotel, unfortunately. I know in Abilene, someone is arranging a BBQ for them, but not sure where.

If anyone lives on the route, welcome Lee with a big sign or something. He's taking a lot of ribbing (good-hearted, I hope) for being an almost assured winner. Someone referred to this as a Rally for Lee, and a road race for everybody else.

the route is at http://www.scootercannonball.com/route/ but I don't know how to find out specific roads that they're on.

If you see them, take pics!

Some sort of drama going on with Lee now, involving handcuffs. Start at page 27 on the Modern Vespa cannonball thread!

For everyone following Lee's Cannonball Run, here's what happened today...

Still waiting to hear what happened. All we do know is that he made it to the checkpoint finally, but there was a detour somewhere.

You guys need to move over to the vintage camping equipment thread on this..it's, well, where Lee has posted. When he can. Pictures of the Salsbury (which I called the Frankenscoot months ago and was corrected..it's a Frankenbury!)

Anyway...WINNER WINNER, CHICKEN DINNER!!

Yup, Go Lee! Show 'em how it's done!
