In my neck of the woods there are a lot of moose and usually the occupants of the vehicles do not fair well. When a car hits a deer, the front of the car takes most of the body impact of the deer. When a car hits a moose, the front end hits the legs of the moose which then starts sliding along the hood and through the windshield.
I've had a few friends and family have this happen to them and they are lucky to be alive, but they have had reconstructive surgery and lots of rehab to be able to function again.
