Yesterday sept. 24th 2012 I got lucky twice first was when I needed gas
I live outside of town the first filling station was closed so on to the next one about 20 miles away I put 15.75 gallons into a 16 gallon tank.

second time was when I went on to get new tires since my right front kept going down.
the dealer showed me the right front tire they removed,
the steel belt was showing dealer said when he and the tire changer were talking about how it was the worst tire they had ever seen.
he actualy pushed his finger through the tire the rubber was paper thin.

sometimes you just get lucky...............

Pete,

Old guys deserve to get lucky sometimes 'cause of all things they've been through!
I'm not as old as you yet, so I carry a can of gas... ;)

The almost running out of gas can have a consequence, above and beyond running out of gas! Many/most vehicles now have the fuel pump running in the gas tank and that is cooled by the gas. Habitually running close to empty can cause the fuel pump to overheat long-term and shorten its life. And yes we've done it too.
