Things that don't fit anywhere else...

I'm with you on this one. From drain pipes running uphill to electrical junctions twisted together without being in a box, I see truly scary things done in houses both new and old.
One of my favorites was the new construction house I was wiring for a security system where the guy installing the gas fireplace decided that instead of offsetting his exhaust pipe, he'd just cut right through the lumber holding up the entire second and third floor.
Some people should just never be allowed in a job where people can get hurt if you do it wrong.

A friend wanted to open up his basement. He was going to remove a wall down the center of the house. Thankfully before he did it I got wind of his plans and told him to stop. When I looked at it later that week I could see that it was a support wall, and right above it was another support wall that supported the roof peak.

Well, it's your baby now Slow, so whenever you buy a used piece of equipment go through it bolt by bolt. Clean it up as you go, and keep an eye on everything.

We always blow off a combine after each day's use, grease all the bearings, check all fluids, etc.

Forgot the plow at the barn, no problem, just give it a little more gas. Does two rows at once. :D

you wouldn't believe what people do to their airplanes. one guy I knew would check the trash for old spark plugs, air plane plugs have different temps they are rated for to make sure the lead burns off, he didn't care about that or that we threw it away for a reason. Is that $25 you saved really worth it?
Another guy had wire nuts holding power wires together, and the wire they used was lamp cord, unlike your house an airplane vibrates everything apart, and the wiring has special coatings rated to protect against fire.
I've seen more than one engine sealed with JBweld because the gaskets were leaking, and some with any old part that fit used to build up the engine.
One air plane owner came in to get a cable changed, the air plane had landed on its belly and the damage never fixed. the windows all leaked so the floorboards were rotted out, I ended up vacuuming out pounds of sand in the belly of the plane. the windshield was crazed so badly at the bottom it was cracked almost all the way across, The same guy had another airplane that the rings were so worn out on his cylinders leaked oil from the bottom spark plug holes (flat engine like a VW bug). He flew his family around in both air planes and thought we were just money grubbers that were too picky, when we pointed out the defects. His annual inpection was signed off by a "friend".
Another air ambulance showed up at our air port last year, on landing one engine quit, the pilot found it would only start and run at high power settings. in spite of the fact the whole side of the plane was covered in oil, the pilots boss was trying to talk him into flying the patient out! the only reason the pilot didn't go was it was pouring rain, foggy, and night. I ended up finding the engine had swallowed a valve, broke the valve and rammed the valve head back into the valve seat, I never found the valve stem it went some where in the exhaust system, just waiting to take out the turbo charger, LIKE IT HAD JUST DONE 25 HOURS BEFORE, same engine, same cylinder, same valve position failed. the owner flew out, slapped a new cylinder and piston on, and flew the plane home... at least I talked the pilot out of working for that guy again.
People just don't think, where are you gonna pull over in the sky?
