Kayak deck

I have to refinish my kayak deck. Last time, I used a good grade of spar varnish (I thought).... the 'yak is only exposed to the sun when in use, otherwise, it is stored inside.

I'm disappointed that the spar went bad so soon, and am looking for recommendations on what to use... Spar again, or poly with uv protectors? Thanks for any suggestions...... I washed it off and am just about done with the prep..... I'll apply the finish with a brush and tip it with a foam brush.
