Everything in the universe is temporary/changing. The world will end one day, but not according to some ancient scroll and most likely not on Dec. 22, 2012. Enjoy the New Year and happy trails

How could the thousands of people who have been advertising the end of the world for hundreds of years, with those sign boards around their necks, all be wrong? Well they were, and many more will be wrong again. I plan to wake up smiling on Dec 22, and continue my happy lifestyle with no interuptions, thank you very much. (a half full glass is better than a half empty one.)

It's hilarious to think that just because our country is having issues and things aren't great in the world that it's because it's ending! Who are we, pompous as we are, to expect that one of OUR leaders will be the Antichrist? Oh no, it wouldn't be China, oh no. WE get the Antichrist because the End is supposed to happen to us! It's 'cause Jesus was a ginger whitey! Nope. We're a 1st World country! We're so bored with our existence that we invent things to scare ourselves.

Nobody cares what I think, but a scientist said it best: We're only here until someone messing with the wrong thing has an oops moment. We're not going to Mars. We canned the space program! Now I'm just ranting. Either way, I hope you all have a Merry Christmas, and maybe next year we'll have a moment's peace without some idiot's new bored reason why 'we're all gonna die' in a desperate 15 seconds of fame on YouTube.

Well, you know how our calendars start all over on January 1st? Maybe the Mayans just ran out of room, and December 22, 2012 is when their calendar starts all over again.

Just my two cents.....I'll collect on December 22, 2012 :)

You're not far off ... their calendar completes a series of "digits" and needs to add a new one. The same thing happened on our calendar in the year 999. Anyone using their calendar, December 21, 2012 would be equivalent to starting the first millennium (although a lot bigger number.) Kind of like the debt leaving the billions and going into the trillions ... maybe I'll live to see quadrillions the way we're going ...

Wikipedia wrote:Misinterpretation of the Mesoamerican Long Count calendar is the basis for a popular belief that a cataclysm will take place on December 21, 2012. December 21, 2012 is simply the day that the calendar will go to the next b'ak'tun, at Long Count 13.0.0.0.0. The date on which the calendar will go to the next piktun (a complete series of 20 b'ak'tuns), at Long Count 1.0.0.0.0.0, will be on October 13, 4772.

Sandra Noble, executive director of the Mesoamerican research organization Foundation for the Advancement of Mesoamerican Studies, Inc. (FAMSI), notes that "for the ancient Maya, it was a huge celebration to make it to the end of a whole cycle". She considers the portrayal of December 2012 as a doomsday or cosmic-shift event to be "a complete fabrication and a chance for a lot of people to cash in."
