new tow truck

Postby Chip » Wed Aug 16, 2006 9:13 pm

Well its been a long time getting here but I finally got the old engine out and the new engine put all together and guess what """"IT CRANKED"""" that is after I had an Ira kind of day,,, something about the distributor being 180 degrees out made it spit back thru the carb and refuse to crank,,, take out dist. rotate it 180,, drop it back in and VRooooooommm,,, we have power,,,, :applause:

350 small block,,, 202 double hump heads,, low end torque cam,, so far just a stock 2 barrel but having Carter AFB rebuilt and pair it with a wyland alum intake,, headers and exhaust to follow,,, this aint gonna be a winner in a mpg race but hopefully not to bad,,,

see yall in da woods,,,,

Evening Chip!

Nice ride! I always like the El Camino, never had one but I did have a 1974 Ranchero for awhile. It had the 460ci and was hard to keep in tires.

Did your friends make it back from Sturgis safely?

You should have left the distributor in the way it was and just driven sideways! Bet you didn't even think to try that. Conformist! :R
I put the distributor 180 out on a VW one time and it took me two days to figure it out. I was sure I had put it in right and I refused to check it.

That's a great looking ride. It will make a great tow rig.
Still graced with two eyes and ten fingers (due in no small part to luck!).

Just when you think a problem is solved, an uglier result replaces it.

Chip, That'll pass everything but the gas station. Nice tow rig

You should have left the distributor in the way it was and just driven sideways!
Or you could have moved the plug wires 180*.

Nice Chip. I'm trying to talk a good friend of mine out of a chevy he has. It doesn't even have an engine or trans in it. I'm not doing very good. It's the only chevy I would or want to own.

Have a good day.

Oh, it's a '59 El Camino. Super clean car with very little rust in the rocker areas.

Thanks for the good words ,,,,(even from the Ford gallery)

Elmo,, not sure if the guy got back yet or not,, Ill find out sat night,,, I havent heard anything bad so I am sure they will have stories to tell,

Instead of turning the dist. I started to just turn the car around but the dang thing is heavy to push,,,

Tires and Traffic court,,, dang I hope not,,, I am sort of a cheap skate and since insurance and tires cost big bucks,,,Ill prob keep my foot out of it,,, since I am a mature, responsible adult,, ya know 8)

Gage, a 59 huh,,, now that would definately would be something to talk a man out of,,,, wow that would be a good addition to the ford collection,

now if gas would drop back to .50 cents a gallon I could really enjoy this toy,,

chipper

It's about time you finished that darn thing. Now somebody else has worse gas mileage than me.

He had it 180 out, so he'd have had to drive backwards!

Nice ride Chip - for a Chevvy... 8)
