To properly prepare for any potential “company” Swithchyard or Substation outage or disturbance the following procedure is being implemented. “Company” will require certain personnel to be on-call 24/7 and respond to the outage or disturbance within 30 minutes. This will require the employee staying within a 30 mile radius of “the plant” when they are assigned as the Substation On-Call Person. Qualified employees living within a 30 mile radius have been considered for this position. Substation On-Call Personnel will be required to answer their cell phone and respond to the request. Failure to answer and respond to a call-out will result in disciplinary action. The Substation On-Call Person must be fit for duty during their scheduled on-call duration. Employees that are actively on-call that have an Agency vehicle can use the vehicle for personal business while staying within the 30 mile radius. Employees not assigned an Agency vehicle will be reimbursed mileage at the Agency rate for any travel to the plant outside normal work requirements on their assigned week.
I did eliminate "company" and "substation" names as they are not important at this time.
This was presented to several of us. I, being the short timer, have only been here for 17 years. We have all been on 24/7 call for the whole time, only without the 30 minute/30 mile "disiciplinary action" part. I personally live 37 miles from the plant so am not "considered for the position". This will only result in some person unfortunate enough to live within 30 miles of the plant to abandon family and friends and break the laws of the state of Texas to try to arive at the plant in 30 minutes, only to sit and wait for qualified personnel to arive and work on the problem. Kind of a "stupid pet trick" to satisfy the power trip of management.
If you are 30 miles away and MUST be there in 30 minutes, you would have to be IN the company vehicle, averaging 60 mph, in the direction of the plant at the time you answer the call...........!!!!!!!!!
Life turns a bit sour when "management" becomes younger than those actually doing the work.
