To properly prepare for any potential “company” Swithchyard or Substation outage or disturbance the following procedure is being implemented. “Company” will require certain personnel to be on-call 24/7 and respond to the outage or disturbance within 30 minutes. This will require the employee staying within a 30 mile radius of “the plant” when they are assigned as the Substation On-Call Person. Qualified employees living within a 30 mile radius have been considered for this position. Substation On-Call Personnel will be required to answer their cell phone and respond to the request. Failure to answer and respond to a call-out will result in disciplinary action. The Substation On-Call Person must be fit for duty during their scheduled on-call duration. Employees that are actively on-call that have an Agency vehicle can use the vehicle for personal business while staying within the 30 mile radius. Employees not assigned an Agency vehicle will be reimbursed mileage at the Agency rate for any travel to the plant outside normal work requirements on their assigned week.

I did eliminate "company" and "substation" names as they are not important at this time.

This was presented to several of us. I, being the short timer, have only been here for 17 years. We have all been on 24/7 call for the whole time, only without the 30 minute/30 mile "disiciplinary action" part. I personally live 37 miles from the plant so am not "considered for the position". This will only result in some person unfortunate enough to live within 30 miles of the plant to abandon family and friends and break the laws of the state of Texas to try to arive at the plant in 30 minutes, only to sit and wait for qualified personnel to arive and work on the problem. Kind of a "stupid pet trick" to satisfy the power trip of management.

If you are 30 miles away and MUST be there in 30 minutes, you would have to be IN the company vehicle, averaging 60 mph, in the direction of the plant at the time you answer the call...........!!!!!!!!!

Life turns a bit sour when "management" becomes younger than those actually doing the work.

:o Doesn't take a Lawyer to figure out that someone is going to be required to break the law or sue the plants @$$$ off for disciplining them.

I'm sure you know MY thoughts on this kind of stupid, management nonsense.

But I would LOVE to be entertained by those here whoi think otherwise, those wh0 would have you kiss the owners' feet for "letting" you work for them for 17 years.

Ira,
I heard that.

"On call" comes around every 3rd weekend (thank The Flying Spaghetti Monster there are three of us. The short part of that story is we're a {supposedly}7-person regional response team, and I was half of it until October 1st) and our response time is a maximum of 15 minutes.

I'm old school, so I sweat the details and do the followup calls and document the living daylights out of the incoming calls. Over the last 18 months, I've had the on-call phone ring exactly ONE time that wasn't a completely wrong number. The good news is, every time we've had an "event" kick off, it's come in during regular working hours (albeit usually after 3 p.m. on Friday), so we've been able to avoid really fearsome stuff like waking up regional directors at 4 a.m. on Sundays ...

I had to call my regional manager at my 1990 job at 10:30 p.m. one Saturday night. I'll never forget what he said: "What the HELL are you doing at work? GO HOME. We'll fix it Monday." We were running 24/7 at the time...

So yeah, Larwyn, I hear you -- and for your sake I'm glad you're 37 miles out, because if you were 32 miles out they'd want you to drive faster.

Yup, the flow of political refugees has already slowed to a trickle ;)

Lawryn,
do they just measure a 30 mile radius and anyone falling within that is subject to the on call list? I am just wondering because I live about 9.5 miles from work but my drive to work is 21 miles since there is no roads that go straight thru. :?

P.S. I used to do Substation designs in your neck of the woods.

All it would take is someone getting into an accident and suing them. If you lived just 15mi from the plant, you would still have to speed to make it time.

Even Domino's pizza doesn't have the 30min or less policy because too many drivers were getting into accidents.

Not me. For once, we agree, Ira. This is just plain wrong.

The same people who were deaf to our allies, the U.N. and to anyone in this country suggesting different ideas are now "all ears" when it comes to al qaeda claiming a delusional victory. That takes the cake.

You don't see the connection between our enemies claiming a victory for Democrats as a victory for themselves? Now THAT takes the cake.

Whether or not it is a victory (delusional or otherwise) for Al Qaeda, there can be no denying that those who want to destroy our country consider our election results to be good news for them.

And I rather suspect she stole it from Murphy's Laws of War.
