Lynn's knee Surgery

Postby Lynn Coleman » Mon Oct 15, 2007 10:25 pm

Hi all,

I tried to post this last night but my cable went out just before I posted. So, I'll try again.

Friday I went in for the arthroscopic surgery to have my right knee meniscus fixed. When the surgeon got in there, he discovered my meniscus was just fine, what was wrong was the thin layer of cartilage over the knee bone was torn. he scraped away the tear, then drilled some holes to make it bleed. This is suppose to encourage new growth of the cartilage. I think it was also to help the micro fracture that was on the bone to heal as well.

What this means is that I won't be able to walk for six weeks. I've got a book deadline in six weeks as well. UGH!

It also means that Paul and I won't be able to get much done on the Inkwell and our goal to have it finished by the end of the year, is probably no longer realistic.

BTW, I'm horrible with crutches. And I'd love a wheelchair that's build for a "wide load" but then I probably wouldn't be able to get it threw the bedroom door. Which we took off so I wouldn't be banging up the door and doorframe. We'll be needing to build a ramp for the garage so I can leave the house. At present, I can't do that. I'm hoping to be able to have the ramp in by Monday next week.

The other downside is the laptop in my lap, hurts my knee. I'm hoping this will change by the end of the week. Thankfully the first draft of my book is finished. I just have to edit and can work in dribs and drabs while editing.

Anyway, for those of you who expressed interest that's what happening here. BTW the doorway of the inkwell is not wide enough for the wheelchair.

Lynn,

Hope you heal very fast. My prayers are with you. On the note of crutches, I had knee surgery a few years ago. Was in a immobilization cast for 7 weeks. I was trying to use crutches UGH. So I used a walker instead. Was far better than the crutches, as I felt more secure from falling etc. You might want to give it a try.

Bummer. Hang in there. (no pun intended). Focus on how happy your knee will be in 6 weeks.

hi lynn,

try one of those lap boards to set the laptop on. that's what i do, it's more comfortable in the recliner, and it is better for your laptop cuz it is setting on a hard surface and the vents are open to circulate the air.

tk

all the best during your recovery!

Hi all,

Thanks for all the well wishes. I took myself off the pain meds last night and so far, I'm holding my own. Hopefully that will mean a clear mind to work with by tomorrow.

I'm going to try that, I really don't like the crutches, too many near falls with those things. I'm pretty good in the wheelchair though.
