Emotional Outbursts

Postby robfisher » Fri Aug 28, 2009 10:37 am

Just when a thread gets started that seems pretty exciting and generates a lot of emotion it gets locked or just disappears. Then it's back to the mundane for awhile.

Although I fully understand why these threads get locked I'm one that can enjoy a good argument and a little name calling. It's probably because growing up we never got to name call or yell around the house like some people did. We just all "loved" each other and it was very boring.

What about you? Did you grow up in a house with yelling and screaming or a house that kept the quiet rule and just let things fester?

This post was not meant to be a hit on the moderators in any way. I understand the nature of boards and the certain amount of anonymity we have that seems to somehow give license to say things we never would say in person. God knows that I say things that either I didn't mean at all or sure didn't mean the way they sounded. Our board is the best board on the web and I thank our moderators for the good job they do in keeping us all civil.

Thank you. Rob

Very little yelling and screaming. Sure, when my sister and I were very young, we had our moments of childish argument, and there were times when mom would raise her voice out of frustration with us kids, but not on a regular basis.

My dad was pretty soft spoken. He had that talent of giving us "the look." That was enough.

Until I was about 16 years old my step dad would hit me with his backhand or his belt if I would argue with him. In high school I joined the wrestling team and gained a significant amount of strength. Once when he attempted to hit me with his backhand I caught his wrist and did not let go. He never hit me after that.

I like firey topics, and I am entitled to my opinion. Sometimes, in the heat of the moment, I state my opinion without thinking it through. I've always been an impulsive person, perhaps overly opinionated.
Some topics just beg to be debated! Stolen trailer, case in point. Ted Kennedy, case in point. Some things, like politics, are better for me to stay away from. I still have an opinion, but I choose not to discuss politics. I value my friends here too much.
I would hope, that when we disagree, then we do it and then we forget it. No grudges, no hatred. Like they say, 'opinions are like a**holes, everybody has one'.

Rob,
I'm the youngest of 5... We never fought or got in arguments, always loved and hugged on one another. (Yaa Right!!!)
My mother used to tell me my name was gonna be "Mud!!!..." when getting in trouble.
I'd send her to the next level when I'd respond, "Hey... Mud Hubbard, that sounds pretty good!"
(All our names started with D except my sister)

As far as things go here, I think the reason why it's not allowed here is because Mike says no fighting and it's almost impossible to detect what the emotional content of the text words are, as when they're spoken.
I try to use an emoticon to keep anyone from getting the wrong idea when posting words that could be taken the wrong way.

I only have 1 brother but, I grew up in an Italian neighborhood in West Philadelphia.

I have 38 cousins on one side and 19 on my Moms side. And about half of them lived within a block of me.

Anybody on the block was allowed to correct, or smack you if you did something wrong and nobody talked...everyone yelled.

Everybody knew everybody else s business because the volume was so loud.

But the Barber shop is where you got all the good dirt.

There was always somebody sellin' something out of the trunk of a car and there was always that "Go to Guy" who could get you anything.

Intimate conversations were conveyed over several hundred feet down the block and there were often 3 or 4 going on at once.

But when our neighbor Mr. Marchione Yelled "Sons a ma beech" everything got quiet until you found out why.

I thought my name was "God Dammit" until I was 10. And my Brother was Jesus Christ.

Yes, It was a very sheltered life.

Happy Trails

My Dad was a shift worker when we were young...and we kept it pretty quiet when he was sleeping after working swing or night shifts. My Ma was also pretty proper..kids were to be seen and not heard, politeness was expected, and you needed to "take it outside" if you wanted to be noisy.
