Telemarketers

Postby eamarquardt » Thu Nov 12, 2009 10:10 pm

I sometimes like to screw with them. I'm on the national do not call list but that doesn't seem to stop them.

For example one recently called and wanted us to move our balance. Went like this:

Him: How much do you owe?
Me: I don't know till I get the bill.
Him: How much did you pay last month?
Me: Nothing, I never pay any bills.
Him: Did you use the card?
Me: Yeah, just about every day.
Him: About how much do you charge a month?
Me: At least a thousand dollars.
Him: Well then, how much was your last bill?
Me: I dunno, I didn't even look at the bills.
Him: Haven't they suspended the card?
Me: Nope.
Him: Why don't they suspend the card?
Me: I guess cause my wife pays the bill each month.
Him: Well how much is your balance right now?
Me: Haven't you been listening to me, I don't know untill we get the bill.

This went on for at least 5 minutes. Then: CLICK

I hope they don't call back.

Hope this brightened your day.

Cheers,

Gus

most telemarketing is done by automatic dialing.... If I answer and no one is there, that means the next guy in line will eventually p/u to talk to me... after 2 seconds of no one there, I just hang up because I know what's coming.. if I'm near one of the phones with caller id, I look to see who it is... and just don't' answer it..

I deleted the link because I figured, after "Proud To Be An Amereican" offended some, then Telemarketer Revenge on youtube, would also offend.

Like Arne, I say "hello" once. If no immediate response, I hang up. Apparently, being on the no call list doesn't mean much. But getting up to answer the phone is just about my only excercise these days. I love retirement.

I've recieved lots of those "vehicle warranty" and "credit card interest rate" calls which are all not even legit services. I started reporting them all to the FCC. They stopped for a while, but they have started up a bit lately again. I had one guy get real beligerent with me after I asked how he had my personal info and the make and model of my car. When I politely asked him to please take my name and info out of their database he informed me that he could not do that, but could increase the frequency of the calls. Caller ID did not pick him up, otherwise he would have been reported too.

Telemarketers are always there.

I deleted the link entitled Telemarketers Revenge on youtube. It is hysterical, but some (telemarketers) may be offended.

Reba, you should really not worry so much. Sometimes we don't mean to offend someone, it just happens. anyways, if they call me and I did not ask for what ever they are pushing, chances are "I'm going to piss them off"...it's kind like someone going door to door trying to sell you something you never ask for. They always seem to call or show up at a bad time to start. Just my thoughts.

We can't seem to totally get rid of them... but we have minimized their interruptions...

We have an electronic gadget on our phone that will erase our number from an automated dialer.

Plus we are unlisted...

Plus we use that national do not call list.

But during this recent downturn in the economy the calls have picked up to something like 2 or 3 calls a week.

I don't know how that compares to you guys... how many calls a week do you get?

Mike...

Along with all the other ones there seem to be quite a few 'collection agencys' popping up on a regular basis these days. These places are by no means legitimate, they try to strong arm you into sending them money on old debts that have been written off for years, could be as much as 10 years old or older. These cannot legally be collected but they will BS you into believing they can collect them......DO NOT send them money!! You could do what I intend to start doing tho....collect their name and address and the account number and amount they will "settle" for and tell them you will forward it to your attorney. They last one I did let an attorney handle, (free of charge by the way) a company called NCO, netted me about twice what my wife sent them for a "settlement" plus $250 for my 'inconvenience?' Don't know why the extra, asked, didn't get a good answer, just cashed the check. I don't know what the attorney made by taking them to court, didn't ask, but it must have been plenty....I'm sure he didn't send me the extra $ out of the goodness of his heart!!!
