That is certainly another world for us, but no, they are not kidding and will probably get their price. The owner should ship it out here for Scottsdale Barrett Jackson Auction though. This auction is held right down from my house and every year a few really insane purchases happen and this car fits the profile. All original, absolutely mint, and with excellent documentation.

It's Pluto to me though... (and it don't matter if Pluto is a planet or not).

People with THAT kind of money drive their cars into the bay when a pelican flies by

I liked the notation from eBay on the side of the listing: This vehicle is eligible for up to $50,000 in Vehicle Purchase Protection. That's 0.9% of the asking price

And for that money, the statement believed to be the first Mustang built on the assembly line just isn't good enough for me. Yes they have a lot of documentation but they can't say 100% FOR SURE that this is the first one built. For 5.5 mil I want Henry Ford's signature on a piece of paper saying that it was the first. (I know Henry Ford died in 1947 but you get my drift)

He's full of it. If it is the mustang he says it is, then it wouldn't even see
a day on ebay. he has many other routes to take to sell that car.

...lets see, Carol Shelby's PERSONAL, HAND BUILT AC COBRA, sold and autographed by him brought in that price...5.5mil...a couple of years ago at B-JAuctions...there may be someone out there who would pay that much but I hope the owner is not holding his breath waiting........

Post on E-bay for some inexpensive exposure – I doubt that it would go that high at BJ auction. The only thing special is that it is the first off the assembly line according to the documentation. I would wonder why a convertible would be one of the first? They didn’t make too many convertibles in the first year of production
And Speaking of Mustangs here is a picture of mine. Rare 65 mustang GT with A code 289 HiPo motor, Pony interior, automatic, rally pac, 140 mph speedo (and yes it did), all matching numbers and not a fake! They only made about 5,000 Fastbacks in 1965 - and not all were GT's. Bought it in Rockwall, Tx for $4,000. I though it was too much for the car – that was 1985 prices, but my friend, who judges mustangs, showed me the book value. I did all the restoration – from body work, interior to final paint – and it sat in the garage for three years – I finally sold to a dentist in New York for $18,000.00 in 1988.

Maybe we're looking at the value in the wrong way. They are asking $97.27 for each mile on the vehicle.

I'm gonna put my 1991 Ford diesel truck up for sale at $75.00 a mile (a bargain compared to the Mustang dollar value per mile). At 306,245 miles, I'm gonna be rich!
Still graced with two eyes and ten fingers (due in no small part to luck!).

Just when you think a problem is solved, an uglier result replaces it.

After a short interuption on my project list to fix my damaged trailer by an uninsured motorist, this is next on the project list. A 1965 Mustang 2+2. Owned for quite some time. I hope to get it back on the road soon.
Some of the selling prices mentioned is a motivation.

My brother restored a 64 1/2 Mustang. It was not the fastback though.

And then he cheated. He painted it Corvette Blue, and he got a light blue Pony Interior and put it in.

It was still nice though!

He sold it many years ago!

I think this is no different than the wacky mega dollar world with high art collectors. Who knows what investors are keying in on? I sure can't relate. But perception rules with collectors and if you get enough collectors with money agreeing on the same perception...

BAM!

You've just sold an Andy Warhol last week for $43,762,500.00.

Andy Warhol Art over 43 Million

Many of these same folks are the ones collecting these cars, and by comparison, 5.5 million is like spitting in a tobacco spittoon. Ridiculous. Financial masturbation is all it is. (Can't quite find the right emoticon for that one.)
