arguing with fools

Things that don't fit anywhere else...

arguing with fools

Postby madjack » Tue Oct 04, 2005 3:18 pm

...I have noticed a disturbing trend of late in many threads of folks arguing with fools. As someone else said...I won't name names, you can put those shoes on yourself IF you feel it fits.
If you are the one argung wiith the fool, then you are setting yourself up for massive frustration and if you are the fool, then you are giving yourself a falsely inflated ego and showing yourself for what you are.

This trend causes undue strife and lowers the overall quality of the board and I find THAT upsetting. If someones posts upset you so much that you must just gotta say something, then I suggest you bite the hell outta your tongue first, before responding.

The bottom line is that a posteers question is not being properly answered without having to read thru a bunch of foolish argument, gives a new reader a bad impression and gives a black eye to this board and teardrops in general. Please folks, give thought to what you are posting before arguing with these fools and if you want to make it personal.....use the PM button so that the rest of us do not have to participate

thank you, thank you very much

Madjack-

I couldn't agree with you more!

Let's not lose focus of what this board and we as teardroppers represent; we are fundamentally good, caring, creative, helpful people!

If you disagree with someone, take it off board; email them personally if need be!

Better yet let's have a SPECIAL gathering for troublemakers; some of the events could involve boxing gloves, spears, pistols at 20 paces, etc......

Cheers,

Coop

I'm glad Madjack posted this thread. We've had discussions behind the scenes, but maybe it's better this way.

It's easy to jab at someone to get a response, we've all done that. I'm as guilty as the rest of you. But if your response is one of anger, then the person posting it went over the edge. It happens.

And if you're angry, know that you are being prodded, bite your tongue, and ignore it.

We, who read the forum every day, recognize such prodding messages and are happy when the intended receipient ignores it.

The alternative is for me to kill the thread. Or ban a user. Something I'd rather not do.

So to Madjacks suggestion that we don't argue with fools, I agree!

Thank you, Madjack. That's exactly why I've been posting less and less here and just lurking and learning. It's a shame there are a few people who just want to argue for the sake of arguing. I've even found myself refraining from participating in a particular thread because I didn't want to add fuel to the fire for the argumentative participant(s). It would be nice if all that B.S. would cease..................but it's a free world, and people without manners have equal opportunity to share it.
Chris :D

The tension between what is good enough and what is beyond that creates the space for character to become our work.

Consider me taken behind the Tear shed. :(

I'll be good.... I promise.

Use the stick please... But not the chair! Please don't use the chair!

And Madjack... FWIW - wisdom in those words...

Madjack, you flamed me awhile back because I posted something about those 1940 type teardrops. Heck I didn't know it was already on the board. I was just excited to find the info after searching the internet. By the way, I referring a lot of folks to this good board from Ebay. It seems some jerk is making a living fleecing unsuspecting buyers with teardrop plans but they're copies of copies and poorly done. I know, I bought one and sent it back and got 1/2 of my $back. Gave him an unsat comment and as expected, he did the same to me too. BUT, I entered in my comments go to mikenchell.com for plans. That's where I got mine. Ideas from you folks. Who needs a set of costly one-time use plans?

Just my comments, don't mean to offend anyone but if it does, the very worst you can do is send me an email and sticks and stones....

I thought I was the only one that would see a thread get argumentative and just stop visiting that thread altogether. Madjack, this one's for you. :applause:

I usually read all the "posts since last visit" When I find that it just a flame war, I skip it and go to the next one. It's not necessarily the flames but when they are intentionally egging on the other one to continue.

Tit for Tat

Postby The Teardrop Nanny » Tue Oct 04, 2005 5:34 pm

I agree that people reading the TD site are looking for hints, help, and building solid friendships that will go on for many years. Use the PM if you have a comment or "issue" you want to take up with an individual. I will often skip or stop visiting a certain topic because it gets way far off the beaten track and people start to feel beat up by it. :

Being on the site in a post where you don't want to be--it's like getting up at your house and leaving the room. You can always go outside and close the door, or go to another thread. Thanks to the ADmin. for their patience in trying to keep this forum running smoothly. Not all of us want to get involved in what's going on, but true to human nature, many of us will visit the thread to see what's been going on. I guess that's why shows like Jerry Springer and all the reality TV programs exist and are so popular.
