I haven't done it in many years. I went to an event a couple years ago but got there too late to register. The shifter carts were new to me too, they were crazy fast.

There were a few EVOs and they were fast. Looked like you didn't have to be a good driver to get a decent time with an EVO. Only one WRX STi there (they had just come out) it didn't do as well as the EVOs though.

Yeah, go-carts... they take for ever ! ( The little guy, kept getting lost. His line-of-sight is under the tops of the cones. ) I didn't see any shifter carts. There is one dood that has one, but I don't think he showed. I looked into getting one... they are a little too expensive for me. ...so I got a '81 rabbit. ( for 300$ ) :D Its kinda over weight and under powered , but it'll do.

Used to look like this.

There was a couple guys who ran one of those. They worked at the VW parts dept. My buddy had an 83 GTI so we got to know them (this was around 1986. Their Rabbit ran DM class, dual Delortos siameased valves and slicks. I was working a corner and actually saw the bottom of the car. It did it's typical VW thing around the corner (toe up) when the wheel got higher and higher, next thing I saw was the bottom of the car. They didn't roll it but it was up there.

We did the usual things to the GTI, Weber TB, Ansa exhaust, etc. With the short gearing, he could take me off the line but my CRX Si would kill him.

Heck, that's an easy fix. Remove some of the inter panels that arn't needed and drop a 1981, 1600 Golf Engine in it. And go back to carburetion. Do you also Solo 1 & 2 the car or does SCCA not do those any more?

Have a good day.

Sounds like, a lot of nice parts... D Mod ouch ! 2.0L block ?

Someone around here, ( Ohio, thats why I don't have ITB's or carbs. Crazy weather, I would have to adjust the damn things, as the day warms up and cools down. ) was selling an 2.0L " crossflow " out of a '96 jetta... CHEEP !!! I had to pass on it. Anything other ( engine ) than what was offered in the same body style would bump to DM. Grrr...

Every car with a solid rear ( beam ) does the " lift a leg " pose. ALL the VW guys, tell the Honda guys " its so, the tires last longer. " :)
They swear we can take corners tighter " because the rear wheel will lift. " ( over the base of the cone. )

Mine is a rabbit "L" base model, its no GTi. It has a 74HP 1.7L engine with a 4 speed manual trans... which I actually like. ( longer 2nd gear. )

Gonna have to "bite the bullet" and spend 900$ for an ATB LSD.

Its all good... I have 9.5in. ( full, non highway ) slicks on 7in. wheels ( class limit ) and 600# springs with Koni "yellows" ( single / re-bound ajustable ) to kinda, make up for the ( lack of ) HP.

Image

I also forund a smokin deal on a Recaro SPG... 50$ with barackets !!!

You don't even need a harness with it !

Like this.

:D

Engine wise, I'm gonna go with the 1.8L JH. ( GTi motor) 20-25 more HP ( than the 1.7L ) from the .1L ... I'll keep the CIS. ( posted above)

Solo (1) is road racing. ( mucho dinero... and a lot of stuff to wreck your car into. )

Solo 2 is autocross ( a mini road course set up with cones/pylons in a big parking lot. )

My old CRX used to do it too, had a rear torsion beam axle.

After I finish the trailer I can get it out of the garage and work on my Honda. It has a twin cam ZC (old school Integra) swapped into it. I need to pull the trans and tighten up the shift fork. I put an ACT clutch in it and tightened everything to stock specs. I didn't know that clutch was SUPER stiff, I think the fork slipped from the added spring pressure. It's been sitting in the garage for almost 2 years now. Proly won't auto-x it though, I'd get killed cause I'd have to run mod class. Plus, I can't wake up that early.

Yup you stole the Recaros.

I raced a Miata last year but I'm on tighter budget this year with a first gen Rx7(all tho surprisingly faster).
Oh and it's SOLO and TT now, SOLO is what you old guys remember as SOLO 2 and Time Trials is SOLO 1. The names have changed but they are pretty much the same.

For any one that's even remotely interested you need to find your local chapter of the SCCA and give it a try. It's cheap, fun, safer than the freeway, and not nearly as tough on your car as you might think.

Donno if anyone cares ...

I'm going to another one tomarrow. :D

There is a dood looking for the little spoiler ( non-GTi ), like the one I have. I traded ( straight-up ) for his GTi one. Something about going for " the oldschool look " ... whatever, I can use the GTi one to cover up the huge cone shaped dent on the D.S. fender.

Here is a pic. ( not of mine but one like it. )

Image

I also sprayed a little more Krylon ( 8141,1602 and some 1502. ) on it. :) I'll have pics later next week.

Whish me luck. Supposed to be 80*F. w00t ! ( as the kids would say. )
