Heiki,

Here is another tip to help readability on your screen:

Go to Display Properties (just right click on your screen) and select the Appearance tab, then click Effects. Choose ClearType in the second pull-down menu and make sure the box above it is checked.

That should help if the fonts are not clear.

Glad to hear you're gettin' closer!! :applause: :applause:
A smooth scroll is always good!

Rich I also didnt have service pack 2 before this, I had the cd and installed that also, would that have had anything to do with it? Then a new Radeon 9000 drive and this is where Im at now,

The service pack shouldn't have effected it, it's mostly just MS updates.

However now Im trying to get the lettering and all on the screen to normal size how is that actually done..

Couple of ways.....right click on your desktop and then click on 'properties'
it will take you right to it.
You need to click on the 'settings' tab and make sure your screen resolution is at 600x800 or higher and see what the color quality is at. Should be 16 or 32, 32 is best. Also while in there ckick on the advanced button and see what your refresh rate is set at 'monitor' tab. The higher the better.

Looks sort of small .. but other than that Im up and running better than I was..

Rich is there such a thing as updating Bios and if so how is that done?

Yes there is and stay away from there!!!! If you do it wrong you will be back to square one or worse!

Heikki ;)

Thanks Everyone, I would of never been able to do it without you..You guys are the best ... :shake hands: :awesome:

Edit- Ooops, missed that you said it looks sort of small. You may have the screen resolution higher than what you are used to. MS tends to default to 1024x768, you may have had it on 800x600. Of it could be higher and you just need to drop it back to 1024x768. Much of it depends on the size of the monitor.

Ok its 1024 x 768 and its at 32 then it set at 60 Hz refresh rate , should that be changed or ?

The text on the forum will always look the same for everyone else (should for you too), it is produced by the site as you type and not on your local PC. Hope that is clear.

If the text does not look right to you, then it is something to do with your monitor.

As long as the block that says 'hide modes that this monitor cannot display' is checked you can go ahead and bump it up, I usually go to the one just below the highest.

I don't think you can get Excel on it's own that is part of Office.

DVD player?? If your player is a DVD player then Win Media player will work just fine. You may however need to download a codec pack.

Picture It ??? Don't know that one. Microsoft Picture It maybe?? If so the oldest version I can locate is 9.

Office and Picture It can be had but you will need to understand how to use iso files.

A friend onboard ship installed them both for me once before the machine crashed and Im no expert in installing them but they sure were nice programs, I have no photo programs now.

Yes it was Microsoft Picture It and I think it was 7..

Try this one for her spread sheets.
It is supposed to be every bit as good as Office and it's free.
Open Office
Also only about 120MB to download as opposed to around 600 for Office.

There are lots of good picture editors out there and a large part of them are free too.
Some of these guys might know them better than me.
