Mike,

From the link the MSI Wind looks like the same price as a low end (full size) laptop. If that's the case, then the eeepc is still the best option, not so? (I'm asking because you guys get all the good stuff before we do!)

Mike, you wanna try living down here if you don't like waiting for stuff. The closer you get to either of the poles, the longer you have to wait.
Just ask Heikki ;)

I am strongly leaning that way. I have to wait on some money I am going to get. Also I want the 6 cell battery and have not seen as many of those. I think I am going with black. I want to use it in my classroom, thinking of getting 2.
How well does the eeepc play video? That is something I need the laptop to do.

Mine played view on demand videos downloaded from Netflix, YouTube videos and video content on websites (CNN, MSNBC, Kate Potter's yoga videos) just fine.

And after spending about an hour on hold between various ASUS service people, I got my RMA this morning to send my unit back for a replacement or new SSD. I don't really care which as long as it works as I ordered it. They are promising a one-week turnaround from date of receipt (business days), and I can live with that. I'm packing it up to ship today.

I'll miss it...but if it comes back working before I have to travel in mid-August, I'll be a happy woman.

ASUS EeePC 900 12G XP is over $500. which has a smaller screen and lot less harddrive space.

I've not tried yet. You're talking like you-tube videos, right? Cause it doesn't have a dvd drive.

Mike...forgot to mention that I also was able to play videos I'd shot and saved to my camera's SD card (4GB) and a video I had copied from my main laptop onto my USB pen drive. Since a 4GB iPod nano can hold a full movie, several TV shows, etc., you can put a fair amount of video on an external card or pen drive. The playback through the card slot and USB ports was fine.

eeepc 1000h

Postby Dave Bob » Tue Jul 29, 2008 7:16 am

I ended up getting the eeepc 1000h, the 10" screen and 80gig hd sold me.
Now before you say it's more than some "full size" laptops, I went to msn live search and typed in eeepc. It came up with 25% off at ebay.
I found a guy selling them for $600 (thats $50 higher than its going for by the way). I also had a 10% off coupon so my final cost for the 1000h is a little over $400 with shipping.
It gets here tomorrow so after I use it for a while I'll let you know how I like it.

The "guy" I bought it from on ebay is really mwave a reputable online retailer.

Wow, I did not know the 1000H was available yet! I've been following the eee PC and all the other netbooks but missed that release. It looks beautiful, you should be real happy with it. Make sure you give us the full review!! Maybe even get some "box opening" photos!!
Glad to see that Asus included Bluetooth on this model...not sure why no one has done that before. It's such a natural combination for use with cellphones, mouse, keyboard, etc.
I'm still holding out for a 9" Acer or Asus in the mid $300 bracket.

Newegg has the Acer Aspire AOA110-1295 for $379 shipped, thats close to mid $300. Its white though. Click here.

Buy.com has it for the same price with shipping, but if you use this coupon you can get it for $364, even closer.
