If you could change careers...

Things that don't fit anywhere else...

I like the idea of the stay at home dad. I know it wouldn't be easy or any less stressful than what I do now (actually would be more stressful), but it sure would be a whole lot more fun.

I'm with Madjack as well. Run a nice little campground somewhere and spend time with my boys (7 & 10.) My wife would say the camp ground would have to be in the mountains. I would build stuff (teardrops?) to sell on the side.

I spent 7 years in Art School, only to come out and work in construction -- again.

Were I doing it again, I'd put the 7 years to become an Architect, and do pretty much what I do now, but with better design background.

There wouldn't be a lot of money in it, but there hasn't been a lot in my life anyway!

I did the glamourous photographer bit, it was a jug of fun, but pay days were fewer than necessary.

My only contribution to this discussion is that I think you need to pick something that other people don't want to do, or don't think they want to do, otherwise you risk not being paid enough, like Dave (and every other photographer?).

For example, building boats is a bad choice as you have to compete with people who are really doing it for fun, not for money - and they tend to set the market price that everyone else has to meet. It probably doesn't apply to the US, where land and water frontage is waaay more available than here, but guys here will make a big profit out of running a marina and then use some of that profit to fund an unprofitable boatyard on the same site, because the boatyard is the bit they enjoy!

People certainly do make small fortunes out of doing really exciting things in wonderful places - but how often are they making a small fortune out of the larger fortune they started with?

I'd like to be a porn star. Unfortunately, they don't make "short" films anymore.

I like solid modeling aka CAD design, so I guess that would still be my first choice. I can be artistic and still produce a valid end product... which is product design drawings.

My second choice would be Mac repair... (but that's a hard way to earn a living.)

And if I had to change my career from those two, I would either be a nutritionist/herbalist, or a computer modeler of biosystems. I guess I have a little bit of computer in me...

A long time ago I met this guy in The Bahamas. He was a sales rep for some designer bikini company . So basically he traveled to all the high class resorts around the world selling the product. He had all expenses covered and got to hang out in some really cool places that his paycheck would never allow........I thought to myself  ....and then thought about my job  ..........I guess its like the Highlander..."there can be only one"

I started a fill in job 25 years ago, you know, do this until I find something better, and I'm still involved in the same industry. I guess I must enjoy it :? If I was to take a new direction, it would have to incorporate travelling and TD's. That way I would have the best of both worlds.

hummmm..if I could have my perfect job, it would be to own a large chunk of nature and let people come camp for free, all they'd have to do is make the place better for the next person.

My wife asked me this one time, I couldn't answer. Even doing something you like, can turn into a "Job" eventually.

I like my job OK but I hate the politics. Just let us do our work. We don't need projects to prove that we are working.

I'd like to be a private investigator.

I once helped a retired police office who did part time PI work do a "nookie" watch. Women are pretty good since we can be a bit more detail oriented than men. Also, I didn't have to go find a bathroom as often as he did.

I've had a lot of ideas in the past but after finding this board and reading Ira's posts and seeing the times of the posts I think I was Ira's job. My second choice would be to build teardrops full time. Just to see the happy faces of people when they come to pick theirs up.
