I am fairly new to this site.. May I ask more about your rescue work?

Is this your "regular" job... or something on the side.... are you military or civilian?

take care

Sailor by profession or rather a seaman ... (civilian) ... Ive been trained for this by mandatory schooling in order to work on ships of any type..especially after the Estonia incident .. All crew must have training papers or a qualification book.. approved by Maritime Officials..Or STCW is minimum..which means Standards of Training and Certification and
Watchkeeping.

Firefighting skills, 1st Aid, Rescue Raft, High Speed Rescue Craft. and ...
Protection of Ship and Crew in case of ....Ship Jacking .. or ship take over at sea..

Here is a website (English) of what schooling is involved...at the Maritime Safety Training Center.

I belong to the Rescue Unit here.

It could be that he is drifting northward in the vacinity..

Most Crew have been flown to Kalmar - Small City in Coastal Sweden ...

Captain badly hurt with head injuries and broken leg... Hurt during the tilting of the ship...

It's good to that there people (like you) that are on guard for these emergencies. I'd feel safe knowing that these people are on duty.
Good luck and God speed.

Good Evening Folks

Just arrived home after a long and cold exciting but serious excursion..from the location of the sunken Finn Birch RORO PAX Vessel.

The news is ... 13 of the Crew Members were rescued.. One still missing..
presumed dead.. As I mentioned before I left was that if he was lucky to live for 10 hours that would be it..

Together with the Swedish and Finnish Rescue Teams and Doctors the decision was made to halt all search efforts. The missing sailor would not be alive any longer..sad as it may be..

It is also presumed that when the cargo containers let loose and slid over to the side of the ship that the sailor was caught in between and went down with the ship.. we,ll never know.. unless his body floats to shore at some point ... assumptions and guesses...

Also the last member to be recovered died on route to the hospital due to severe injuries...so 2 members of the ship were lost. out of the 14.

The ship is slowly leaking oil however the extent of flow cant be determined till the winds die off.. and the storms are over..

Rescue of anyone could only be done with helicopters due to the height of the waves and wind..Now the talk and planning of bringing up the ship and containers has started... we,ll see and hear who and when it will be if at all.

Im glad to be back home with family and friends... It was cold ... to say the least..

Best wishes

:applause: Glad you are home and safe. I know you can't keep up that kind of search because it endangers all the others. Hard job you guys have and I am glad there are those who do it.
Bless you all.

Its impossible to fight against storms like that... The feeling at that location was real creepy.. its so difficult to exactly describe what was felt.

It brings us back to the day when the ship Estonia sank with many more casualties... ohhh boy...

But its over till the next one.. As we all hope it wont happen again but unfortunately it will... when ... noone knows...
